Customers love the product and we have seen rapid, organic growth. Our users say that Monarch helps them feel more confident in their finances, and more confident in their financial future.
Our founding team consists of product-driven, serial entrepreneurs with multiple exits. Additionally, our CEO was one of the original creators of Mint.com and has a unique perspective on what is needed to meet consumers' needs in this market.
We are passionate about building a company, product and brand that both customers and employees love. We are well-funded by top venture firms and angel investors.
We founded the company as a fully-remote team (pre Covid!) and are open to applicants that live within a 5 hour time zone difference of US Pacific Time.
We are seeking a Director of Finance to own our FP&A function during a period of hyper-growth. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will build and scale our financial planning processes as we continue to expand as a business.
This role combines strategic financial leadership with hands-on execution, requiring someone who can both build models and translate complex financial insights into actionable business recommendations. You'll work closely with our leadership team to drive key decisions around growth investment, unit economics, and resource allocation while eventually building out our FP&A team.
Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A):
Own forecasting, budgeting, and scenario modeling to support data-driven decision-making.
Build and maintain our core financial models, focusing on user growth, revenue forecasting, cash management and unit economics
Strategic Finance:
Partner with the CFO and leadership team to analyze business performance, evaluate growth opportunities, and prepare for future fundraising.
Lead monthly business reviews and variance analysis, providing actionable insights to leadership
Identify opportunities to improve business efficiency and unit economics
Investor & Board Reporting: Support the CFO in preparing investor updates, board materials, and financial narratives, synthesizing complex financial data into clear narratives
Operational Finance: Establish scalable financial processes around contract negotiations, cash flow management, and expense controls
KPI Development & Reporting: Partner with our data analytics team to help define key financial and operational metrics and expand our automated reporting and dashboards, ensuring visibility across the organization.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with teams across the company—including Growth, Product, and People—to align financial strategy with company objectives. Partner with department heads to develop and track budgets, headcount plans, and key metrics
Systems & Automation: Implement and optimize financial tools and systems to improve efficiency and accuracy. Drive the integration of new technology and systems, including AI and forecasting tools
Team Leadership & Management: Build and mentor a high-performing FP&A team as the company scales
Experience: 6-10 years of total experience, with a significant focus on Strategic Finance and preferably in consumer technology or subscription businesses. Started your career in Investment banking, management consulting, or a similarly high-stakes environment.
Startup Experience: At least 2+ years in a high-growth startup that has gone through hyper-scaling—ideally from Series A to later stages. Excited about wearing multiple hats
Analytical & Strategic Thinker: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, building models from scratch, and presenting insights to senior leadership. Advanced Excel skills and experience with modern FP&A and BI tools. Deep understanding of SaaS metrics and unit economics
Bias for Action: Thrives in a fast-moving, ever-evolving startup environment. You’re not afraid to get into the weeds to solve problems.
Systems & Process Builder: Experience implementing financial systems, automation tools, and scalable processes in a growth-stage company.
Communication & Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to translate complex financial concepts into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
Mission-Driven & Collaborative: Passionate about building something from the ground up and excited to be a key player in our growth journey. Experience managing or mentoring team members preferred
Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field. MBA is a plus
