How You Will Contribute:

The Cloud Services team aims to empower Ciena users to fully leverage the capabilities of the public cloud securely. Reporting to the Manager of IT Cloud Operations, the Cloud DevOps Engineer will be responsible for automating cloud deployment, audit, and compliance processes for Ciena teams seeking to utilize cloud resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify tools and mechanisms for establishing cloud guardrails and ensuring audit and security posture.
  • Develop an automation framework for public cloud guardrails, security service configuration, and deployments.
  • Automate processes to foster agility while maintaining robust security controls.
  • Build and audit the security and compliance layer within the public cloud, and conduct infrastructure and application monitoring to detect or prevent incidents.
  • Propose cloud-related optimizations and best practices to enhance reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency, and create tools to automate repetitive tasks.
  • Perform code reviews, evaluate implementations, and provide feedback to improve tools.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation team and act as an escalation contact for service incidents.
  • Collaborate with teams to design and implement a platform for scalable infrastructure solutions that support development and operational needs across various projects.
  • Explore and implement AI tools and services to enhance cloud environments, optimizing processes such as resource management, predictive analytics, and automated responses to operational events.

The Must Haves:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with experience in large-scale, cloud-based infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or Google preferred).
  • Proficient in deployment and maintenance of GCP services (Compute Engine, Cloud Storage, Cloud SQL, Functions, VPC, Cloud Logging, Load Balancer), with additional experience in AWS and Azure services.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages: Python, JS/TS, Go.
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools for infrastructure deployment and configuration management on Windows and Linux (Terraform, Ansible/Puppet/Chef).
  • Knowledge of automation and CI/CD pipelines, including Git + GitHub for version control using GitHub Actions.

Assets:

  • Knowledge of Cloud Security Services.
  • Experience in REST API usage and design including microservice architectures.
  • Experience with managing Linux machines and Kubernetes clusters.
  • Well versed in DNS, Load Balancing, SSL, and TCP/IP Networking.
  • Ability to manage long term, project/milestone-based work with multiple teams.

Pay Range:

 The annual pay range for this position is CAD 77,000 - CAD 123,000. 

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
