This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful candidate will have the option to perform this role at a location of their choosing within the United States.

The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.

What will you do:

As a member of Cornell’s Analytics and Reporting team you will have a wide variety of projects and tasks, with customer interactions being a key part of this role.  Successful developers demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate the business and technical concepts, deliver estimates for work, and continually provide the progress and status to meet the deadlines with the various stakeholders during project implementation and throughout with the team. On projects you will: lead the design of the dashboards by running design sessions, be responsible for building solutions, and facilitating review sessions to ensure clarity on outcomes.  You will work on requirements gathering and documentation to meet customer needs. You will also be working with, contributing, supporting, and interacting with other business and technical team members daily. This position supports current solutions on an ongoing basis as well as operational production issues as needed, including some limited off-hour support when necessary.

Position requirements:

You have a background in developing visually orientated dashboards or reports, experience in software development lifecycle, and business analysis. These skills will allow you to work effectively with customers to define and refine deliverable specifications. You also have project development experience that will be instrumental for you to deliver solutions on time. This position also supports current production solutions.

Other position requirements include:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data analytics or related field with 5-7 years’ experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Exposure to SQL. Familiarity with basic SQL constructs and use.
  • Ability to understand functional business processes and translate that understanding into technical solutions.
  • Five (5) years of related experience in at least 2 of the following: Dashboard Design & Development, report development, visualization development, requirements analysis.
  • Experience with Analytics Development Life Cycle.
  • Senior level skills in data analysis, data visualization and data preparation.
  • Must enjoy and have demonstrated successful experience in a rapidly changing, continual learning IT/Business environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency developing technical skills and performing problem solving and analysis.
  • Demonstration of excellent technical, verbal, and written communications skills and ability to multi-task within a team-oriented environment.
  • Possess positive attitude, motivated, and willingness to learn and work well with others.
  • Ability to document solutions, designs, issues, etc.
  • Able to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, deadline driven, extremely complex, and rapidly changing IT environment.
  • Experience with at least two of Cornell’s main analytic tools: Microsoft Power BI ,Tableau or Oracle Analytic Server
  • Experience leveraging Tableau capabilities to create advanced workbooks, including calculated fields, parameters, LOD expressions, and Tableau Prep for optimized data analysis and visualization.
  • Experience utilizing PowerBI features, including Power Query, DAX calculations, custom visualizations, and Paginated Reports, to develop complex data models for actionable insights and interactive dashboards.
  • Ability to learn new tools as needed. i.e., quickview, Qlik etc.
  • Be able to create charts and other graphics that visualize data in an informative, easy-to-understand way.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Other preferred (not required skills and experience) include:

  • Experience with OAS(Oracle Analytic Server)
  • Experience with other analytics tools such as Cognos, Business Objects, Qlik etc.
  • Understanding of dimensional modeling concepts
  • Experience and knowledge of data warehousing initiatives or decision support systems in a higher education environment.
  • Experience in higher education
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, SAP, Workday, or other complicated ERP systems
  • Experience/understanding of visual representation of data.
  • Experience with student records data
  • Experience with university finance data, GL, accounts, labor, etc.
