Primary Goal: The Translation Director oversees the team of translation project managers responsible for delivering translation projects. The Director will oversee multiple language service integration projects, new client implementations of translation and localization services and support acquisition activities for GLOBO. This critical role is accountable for the overall success of the translation portfolio and helps cultivate future opportunities by maintaining a high level of program quality and customer loyalty. This role works very closely with all GLOBO divisions and the GLOBO leadership team to successfully deliver translation projects. The Director will be measured on the on-time delivery of quotes, projects and their ability to achieve an established project margin, among other metrics.
Responsibilities & Key Competencies include:
Leadership:
- Provide thought leadership to deliver world-class services
- Capable of acting as a change agent to create new relationship opportunities with an acquired company or new clients and GLOBO teams
- Ability to manage and inspire cross-functional global teams
- Ability to formulate and articulate a perspective and present it in a way to create understanding and alignment
- Display financial acumen to deliver projects within defined margin targets
- Support delivery of policy change while providing guidance, mentoring, training, and support to team members
- Lead and monitor a wide range of high visibility projects and solve problems to keep projects moving forward and on track
- Manage client expectations, drive client deliverables, and exercise scope control to ensure project completion on schedule - including across multiple time zones
- Creatively design solutions for complex requirements
- Develop and maintain strong functional and technical product knowledge
Operational Management:
- Oversee the team of translation project managers and ensure projects are completed on time, to specifications, and to closure with accuracy and efficiency
- Manage multiple concurrent complex, global, multi-phased client translation implementations
- Effectively communicate and work with C-Level sponsors, internal and client project teams, international and multicultural clients
- Provide project management subject matter expertise in client/prospect related discussions, presentations, or RFP responses
- Track and manage program risks, actions, issues, decisions, and metrics for the overall program portfolio
- Escalate and drive risks and issues to resolution
- Manage and report on program financial spend to budget and other Translation team metrics
- Identify team training needs and ensure successful delivery of training and professional development
- Source, vet, and integrate best-fit translation and localization vendors. Manage vendor contracts in alignment with margin and other quality goals
- Ongoing participation and management of relevant ISO processes to maintain certification of standards.
Execution:
- Deliver to program objectives, deliverables, work plan and ensure team’s delivery of new business processes, capabilities and new tools
- Ensure the GLOBO translation team members are completing deliverables in alignment with the timelines
- Direct project execution by assigning tasks, managing project resources, working with subject matter resources, tracking project schedules, mitigating risks/issues, and developing and executing contingency plans
- Identify and track risks, actions, issues, decisions, dependencies, and synergies to ensure successful project delivery and define project process improvements
- Conduct effective training and product demonstrations calls with clients remotely
Required minimum experience and education:
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
- 5+ years business experience
- 3-5 years of project management experience with a proven track record of successfully managing multiple complex projects concurrently
- Prior experience leading, managing, and mentoring a team
- Excellent written and verbal English skills native or near-native proficiency in another language is a plus
- Solid knowledge of localization and website translation project management preferred
- Understanding and working knowledge of CAT tools and workflows preferred
- Knowledge of translation industry standards and best practices
- Authorization to work in the United States
Travel: Occasional, limited travel to new client sites may be required
Work Environment: This position predominantly operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand up or to sit for up to eight hours or more at a time. The employee must use his/her hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, climb, or balance, and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
