Job description

This is a remote position.

Full time: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
8 am to 5 pm, California time zone

Position Overview
Prepare We are seeking a senior-level financial professional responsible for overseeing all accounting functions within our organization. This role involves managing the accounting department, preparing financial reports, maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing budgets, and providing strategic financial insights to leadership. The Controller will report directly to the COO and will be instrumental in supporting the company’s growth and financial health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Reporting
    • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
    • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to support decision-making.
    • Provide detailed financial reports specific to debt settlement operations, including client fund accounting and settlement tracking.
  • Accounting Operations Management
    • Oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger management.
    • Streamline accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
    • Handle bookkeeping tasks such as recording transactions, maintaining ledgers, and reconciling accounts.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting
    • Develop and manage the company budget, monitor variances, and provide financial forecasts.
    • Collaborate with leadership to align financial planning with business objectives.
    • Forecast cash flow and client fund requirements to ensure operational liquidity.
  • Internal Controls
    • Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure compliance with accounting standards (GAAP).
    • Continuously assess and improve internal control processes.
    • Ensure proper handling and reconciliation of client trust accounts.
  • Audit Coordination
    • Collaborate with external auditors to facilitate the annual audit process.
    • Ensure all audit requirements are met and address any findings or recommendations.
    • Prepare audit schedules and provide necessary documentation.
  • Financial Analysis
    • Interpret financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to management.
    • Support strategic decision-making through detailed financial analysis.
    • Analyze client settlement performance and provide recommendations for improving financial outcomes.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Stay updated on relevant accounting regulations and ensure the company adheres to them.
    • Ensure compliance with industry-specific financial regulations, including those related to debt settlement and client fund management.
    • Monitor changes in regulations and implement necessary adjustments to policies and procedures.




Requirements
  • Accounting Expertise: Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting standards.
  • Financial Analysis Skills: Ability to interpret complex financial data and generate actionable insights.
  • Leadership and Management: Proven experience in leading and managing accounting teams.Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present financial information to stakeholders.
  • Technical Proficiency: Expertise in accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve accounting issues effectively.
  • Industry Experience: Experience in the debt settlement or financial services industry is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior accounting or controller role.
