About the role
The Associate General Counsel will contribute across all aspects of the Legal & Compliance department at Equip, including navigating HIPAA, fraud and abuse laws, and privacy regulations as well as advising on contracts, employment matters, and risk mitigation. Collaboration is central to this role, requiring close partnerships with cross functional teams to address challenges proactively and support Equip’s mission to deliver exceptional care in a dynamic, highly regulated industry.
ResponsibilitiesProduct and Regulatory Counseling: Provide strategic legal counseling on telehealth regulatory frameworks, including privacy laws, fraud and abuse regulations, FTC guidelines, and state-specific requirements. Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to mitigate legal risks while promoting an exceptional patient experience in new and existing product features. Support Clinical teams by advising on scope of practice, protocol development, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Corporate Governance: Support corporate governance activities including Board meeting preparation, entity management, and compliance with corporate formalities. Employment Law Support: Provide legal guidance on employment matters, including workforce policies, compliance with cross-state and evolving legal requirements, and proactive risk management practices to support a diverse and inclusive workforce. Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving disputes, including regulatory inquiries, and other pre-litigation or litigation matters. Coordinate with outside counsel as necessary. Compliance Partnership: Collaborate with compliance teams to support internal and external audits (e.g. SOC2), develop company policies and training programs, and monitor compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Policy Development: Develop and maintain policies and playbooks related to risk management, telehealth operations, and contracting policies to address emerging risks and promote operational excellence. Cross Functional Collaboration: Partner with stakeholders across clinical, operational, and technical teams to achieve strategic goals and provide actionable legal advice. Perform other duties as assigned. QualificationsQualifications J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar. 8+ years of legal experience. Proven experience providing counsel on regulatory frameworks. Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills, with experience handling a variety of agreements. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable advice. Thrives in a fast-changing environment, pivoting seamlessly as priorities evolve. Demonstrated ability to balance legal risks with practical business solutions, providing advice that supports innovation and growth. Proven ability to proactively anticipate issues before they arise and take ownership of delivering solutions. Strategy thinker with a hands-on approach and the ability to balance high-level strategy with a willingness to dive into tactical details as needed. Physical Demands
Work is performed 100% from home with no requirement to travel. This is a stationary position that requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards as well as to talk or hear by telephone. Sit or stand as needed.
