Job Description: Bookkeeper

Schedule:  Part-time 20 hours a week flexible during client business hours

Client Timezone:  Sydney, Australia

Position Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to manage and oversee our financial records and processes. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in maintaining accurate accounts, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and supporting the organisation's financial health. This role requires proficiency in accounting software, a strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, and excellent organisational skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Financial Record Management:
  • Maintain and update financial records, including general ledger entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Ensure accurate categorisation of transactions and timely data entry.
  • Reconciliation:
    • Perform regular bank and account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
    • Identify and resolve discrepancies promptly.
  • Payroll Processing:
    • Manage payroll operations, including timesheet verification, payroll tax calculations, and superannuation contributions.
    • Ensure compliance with local employment and tax laws.
  • Tax and Compliance:
    • Prepare and lodge BAS, PAYG, and other tax reports in accordance with Australian tax regulations.
    • Assist with end-of-year financial reporting and audits.
  • Accounts Management:
    • Monitor accounts receivable and follow up on overdue payments.
    • Process supplier invoices and schedule payments in a timely manner.
  • Reporting:
    • Generate financial reports, including profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
    • Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis.
  • System and Process Management:
    • Utilise bookkeeping software such as Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks.
    • Maintain organised digital and physical filing systems for financial records.
  • Client and Stakeholder Interaction:
    • Communicate with clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders regarding financial matters.
    • Provide support and guidance on financial processes when required.

    Qualifications and Skills:

    • Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar financial role.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, Dext, MYOB, QuickBooks).
    • Strong understanding of Australian tax laws and financial regulations.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or similar qualification (preferred).
