Job Description

Where you’ll work: Brazil: Remote-centric

Legal at GoTo

The Legal team is essential to our business. While the specific roles may vary, one thing is certain – you will be at the center of our organization and an integral part of the team responsible for ensuring the efficient risk management and corporate controls necessary to support all our business activities. This is where you make an impact.

We seek to add a detail-oriented, tech savvy, and intellectually curious Counsel to our Privacy and Regulatory practice group who will focus on supporting our growing Brazilian operations and our telco regulated products. The successful candidate will play a key role in providing risk-based counsel to product teams, scaling and enhancing GoTo’s telecommunications compliance program, and supporting GoTo’s privacy and AI programs, including by serving as the Company’s data protection officer (Encarregado) in Brazil.

Your Day to Day

As a Legal Counsel, Product & Regulatory, you would:

  • Proactively partner with and advise Product and Engineering teams on Brazilian regulatory requirements throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring that legal, privacy, and regulatory considerations are embedded into product design and development, and that risks and mitigation strategies are timely identified and addressed.
  • Serve as the DPO (Encarregado) for Brazil, supporting GoTo’s efforts to comply with applicable privacy laws, including the LGPD, and AI requirements.
  • Support GoTo’s efforts to comply with Brazilian law requirements applicable to GoTo’s Brazilian operations and product requirements applicable to telecommunications, VoIP, and value-added software services by (i) preparing filings and reports, (ii) answering questions from regulators (including ANATEL) and customers, (iii) providing strategic regulatory guidance to internal stakeholders, and (iv) coordinating with external regulatory counsel as needed. Topics include emergency dialing, phone number portability, telemarketing, law enforcement requests, privacy, regulatory classification of communication services, and customer rights under ANATEL regulations and consumer protection laws.
  • Collaborate with our commercial legal team to review, draft, and negotiate agreements with Brazilian customers and vendors, ensuring compliance with GoTo’s internal policies, applicable Brazilian laws, and GoTo’s regulatory and privacy standards.
  • Provide local support to other legal team functions, including our corporate and litigation teams, by liaising with local external counsel; supporting the drafting and reviewing of corporate documents, such as quotaholder resolutions and agreements, intercompany agreements, and amendments to articles of association as needed; and drafting or localizing agreement templates, policies, and standards designed to address GoTo legal requirements in a risk-based manner.

What We’re Looking For

As a Legal Counsel, Product & Regulatory, your background will look like:

  • Experience supporting compliance programs, preferably for regulated industries, including developing contract templates, policies, standards and training; knowledge of privacy and telecommunications requirements in Brazil
  • A team player with an excellent work ethic and a demonstrated ability to think creatively to find practical, actionable solutions to complex issues
  • Ability to work and communicate clearly across all levels of the organization, including with colleagues in the Finance, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Security, Sales, and Procurement functions
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize and manage a variety of complex or multi-faceted tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to speak Portuguese and English fluently; Spanish language fluency is a plus
  • Minimum of 3 years of law firm or in-house experience, preferably with experience in telecommunications law.
  • LL.B., J.D., or equivalent from an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Brazil.
  • Ability to speak Portuguese and English fluently; Spanish language fluency is a plus
