Job Summary:
Provides centralized management for all revenue cycle cash application and cash control functions within Geisinger. Manages all hospital and clinic patient and third party cash transaction processing. Responsibilities include directing the daily processing of patient receipts, including but not limited to e-commerce, lockbox and electronic remittance files, along with ensuring appropriate controls exist and are followed based on generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Ensures the timely and accurate application of payments and corresponding contractual allowances.
Job Duties:
- Manages operational functions to include daily and monthly reconciliation of patient cash receipts, payer remittance advice and other electronic files, assurance that transactions are posted in accordance with batch control processes, assurance that all contractual allowances are posted timely and accurately, ensuring timely and accurate processing of all EDI and EFT files.
- Directs the processing of Clinic and Hospital lock boxes within Geisinger.
- Works with Treasury Operations to ensure cash balancing and reconciliation of patient receipts.
- Ensures accurate payee information is on file with all third party payers.
- Generates W-9 forms and updates responses from payers.
- Ensures that responses are received and updated timely and follows up on any exceptions to ensure payer information is current at all times.
- Develops and oversees the implementation of various quality initiatives to ensure continuous monitoring and improvements within the cash management process of Geisinger.
- Manages the overall departments operating budget to ensure organizational compliance and efficiency.
- Works in conjunction with other areas of revenue cycle and System as it relates to transactional processing issues, customer service, implementation of new technology, and cash and accounts receivable results.
- Communicates departmental activities to Leadership, and to the other Management Staff within Revenue Cycle.
- Responsible for the establishment of training and education for all cash department employees.
- Implements and monitors effectiveness of various technological enhancements and business process improvements including IOCR (Interactive Optical Character Recognition) lock box processing and electronic posting of patient cash receipts.
- Oversees electronic payment exceptions process and develops resolution to issues encountered causing re-work.
- Manages and coordinates Same Day Clinic cash receipts payment processing with Information Technology and Revenue Cycle System Support.
