We are currently seeking an experienced, part-time Withdrawal Management Nurse to support our Telehealth-based Withdrawal Management (WM) program. The Withdrawal Management Nurse plays a vital role in providing high-quality, patient-centered care to individuals undergoing withdrawal from substances. This role includes patient assessments, medication management, and continuous monitoring of symptoms, all in alignment with Kolmac’s evidence-based approach. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently and collaboratively, ensuring a safe and effective withdrawal process for our patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Saturday and Sunday coverage 8 am - 8 pm - fully remote position. 
  • Conduct initial assessments to determine patient withdrawal needs and develop individualized treatment plans with medical providers.
  • Monitor patients’ withdrawal symptoms and overall health status via telehealth platforms, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Provide crisis intervention and coordinate referrals for patients needing a higher level of care.
  • Reassess patients following interventions, prepare discharge instructions, and communicate transition plans with the receiving clinic.
  • Administer and manage withdrawal medications per provider orders, following all state and federal regulations.
  • Educate patients on medication protocols, potential side effects, and expected withdrawal progress.
  • Document all medication administration and patient responses in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Work collaboratively with the patient engagement team to support new patient intakes.
  • Implement the policies and procedures of the WM service.
  • Provide guidance and education to patients and their families regarding the withdrawal process and next steps in recovery.
  • Offer emotional support and evidence-based strategies to help patients manage withdrawal symptoms and prevent relapse.
  • Collaborate with medical providers, therapists, and support staff to deliver coordinated, high-quality patient care.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the WM program.
  • Work with the leadership to continuously improve withdrawal management services.
  • Direct patient care as per the ongoing needs of the program along with a team of other nurses based on a pre-arranged schedule.
  • Make initial assessment of patient’s need for withdrawal and develop initial treatment plan with medical provider, patient, and their support person.
  • Provide ongoing assessment and monitoring of patient’s withdrawal management. Coordinate referral to higher level of care if needed.
  • Reassess after interventions. Prepare written discharge instructions; discuss with patient. Coordinate with and communicate hand-off report to clinic where patient will enter IOP.
  • Ensure adherence to all state licensing requirements and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices in withdrawal management and integrated behavioral healthcare.
  • Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in withdrawal management.
Qualifications:
  • Registered psychiatric Nurse
  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Must have a valid Maryland Board of Nursing license. Will need to apply to all states for which we provide WM services
  • Must be able to provide supervision to nursing staff and have some leadership experience
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of office-related software and electronic medical records
  • Experience with withdrawal management is preferred
  • Must be comfortable working with SUD patients and willingness to learn innovative approaches
  • Must have at least 5 years’ related experienced providing treatment services to clients with mental health and/or addictions issues
