$158,000.00 - $186,000.00
What's the role?
We are looking for an Android Engineer to join our platform development team. In this role, you will collaborate with other native and backend engineers, platform engineers, product managers, designers, and researchers to build and support reusable components and infrastructure that empowers product teams to deliver exceptional recommendation experiences on our Android app. You'll play a crucial role in advancing Etsy's goals and growth by contributing to the foundational building blocks that power recommendations across our platform.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub or in the San Francisco Bay Area may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?
Collaborate across Product, Design, Analysts, Researchers, and Engineering to build innovative and outstanding gifting experience on Android app.
Develop and maintain high-quality, reusable Android components and libraries that power recommendation experiences across Etsy's mobile apps.
Collaborate with product teams to understand their recommendation needs and translate them into flexible and performant platform solutions.
Contribute to the design and architecture of our Android platform, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and testability.
Partner with backend engineers to define and implement data interfaces that facilitate seamless integration between client and server.
Continue to advance your skills in using modern Android technologies in a collaborative setting.
Confidently communicate technical issues with all vital stakeholders.
In collaboration with your team, craft and improve processes that impact Android app development across Etsy.

You will succeed in this role if you:
Have at least 3 years of professional Android development experience, ideally in a product-minded environment.
Are proficient in Kotlin, and you understand Java enough to be effective when needing to interact with it.
Are proficiency with version control tools (our tooling and processes are based on git and GitHub)
Approach engineering from a product perspective. The work you'll do here will impact millions of users and it is important to understand their problems and find effective solutions for them
Are familiar with Android development and debugging practices and tools.
Can communicate complex technical issues in clear language.
Are passionate about beautiful code and quality development practices.
Have experience with testing (unit tests, functional tests, visual tests) and accessibility frameworks.
Have previously worked on large applications with many developers or teams.
Are generous with your time and experience, and can mentor other engineers.
Can define and tackle unconstrained problems, and know when to seek help when no progress is being made.
Have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are willing to work with and improve on code you did not originally write.
