Director  AP Portfolio Authenticity  

College Board - AP and Instruction 

Location: This is a fully remote , full time role. Candidates who live near CB offices have the option of being fully remote or hybrid (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).  

About the Team 

The AP Delivery team is responsible for managing execution of AP Annual Cycle with schools, educators and students from course setup and exam ordering through exam administration, scoring and score reporting.

Every year, over two million students worldwide take over five million AP Exams, submitting over 22 million constructed responses which must be evaluated and scored during the AP Reading in June by AP ReadersAP Readers are high school AP teachers and higher education professionals who have been recruited, hired, and trained to fairly and accurately score written student responses to AP Exams, either at centralized Reading sites or remotely via an online scoring system. 

 

About the Opportunity  

As the Director, AP Portfolio Authenticity, you will be responsible for collaborating with several groups across the College Board to maintain an ongoing policy and identification approach related to authenticity of student work for AP exam portfolio submissions. As owner of this policy and identification approach, the Director, AP Portfolio Authenticity will take great care to make sure that students who submit work that is authentic and original are able to receive credit for the work they have done. Given advancements in AI, and the wide availability of services and platforms that promote and disguise cheating, the Director, AP Portfolio Authenticity will stay current on developments in AI as well as other tools could potentially impact the authenticity of student submissions. 

In this role, you will: 

Design and execute procedures  (60%) 

  • Design and periodically amend processes and procedures related to verification of authenticity of student work. 

  • Oversee collaboration necessary among internal teams (Program, Security, Customer Service, Technology) in order to execute annual verification of authenticity of student work. 

  • Manage verification review processes that leverage existing or new AP Reading workflows. 

  • Coordinate notification of student specific results with Security, Communication, and Customer Service teams. 

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert escalation / lead on edge cases.  

Develop policy and requirements  (20%) 

  • Craft clear external policies and internal requirements related to the verification of authenticity of student work. 

  • The specific focus of this role is related to student work produced and submitted outside of the secure exam administration setting via the AP Digital Portfolio. These policies and procedures should be reviewed on an annual basis with AP stakeholders and leadership. 

Deliver status and data analysis  (20%) 

  • Provide regular updates to multiple teams during the student submission, scoring, and review period for AP Scoring. 

  • Summarize and report key metric data to help inform future policy decisions. 

  • Propose enhancement to policy/approach based on learnings / data. 

 

About You 

You have 

  • A thorough understanding of relevant AP program subjects and coursework 

  • Experience building policies and processes aimed at student work authentication 

  • Experience collaborating across different divisions to build unified solutions 

  • Degree or advanced degree in a relevant field, and 10+ years of related work experience preferred 

  • Self-starter, able to identify and solve for needs without explicit direction 

  • Ability to manipulate, interpret, and refine data to drive decision making 

  • Demonstrated experience working with both detailed requirements as well as early-stage ideas that require impact analysis and full vetting 

  • Experience with the latest trends in AI and how it is being used for student work 

  • Able to work well with staff at all organizational levels, including leadership among a group of peers 

  • An excellent verbal and written communicator – clear, compelling, and persuasive in your communications 

  • Demonstrated experience balancing multiple diverse projects with competing demands for scope, time, cost, and risk, with a limited pool of resources 

  • A team player eager to troubleshoot challenges, share your knowledge, and learn from others 

  • Excels at communication and contact (desire to ‘want to know’ people and what is important to them) 

  • Prefers “yes” over “no” when it comes to hard things -> bring positivity into any room 

  • Prefers concepts to work with over specific checklists 

  • Excellent PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and MS Project skills  

  • Ability to travel to team meetings and additional functions approximately 3-4 times per year 

  • Ability to travel at least 10% of the time and more as per business needs 

  • You are authorized to work in the US

The hiring range for a new employee in this position is $80,000 to $135,000. College Board differentiates salaries by location so where you live will narrow the portion of this range in which you can expect a salary.
