We are looking for a Manager, Transmission Integrated System Planning to lead, plan and justify capital investments through robust analysis and needs identification contributing to regulatory excellence in ENMAX Power and ensuring a safe, reliable, and economic transmission system. You’ll play a vital role in planning the future of critical transmission assets at an exciting time in our industry. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Lead an engaged and capable team that is aligned with overall business objectives.

  • Develop ENMAX Power’s (EP) Transmission Integrated Plan, providing optimization of investments and resource allocation through transparency across the organization.

  • Lead the development of EP’s Asset Management Strategy with a focus on establishing the required tools, governance, processes and analytics to support prudent long-term asset management plans.

  • Lead the development and defense of timely, thorough, and prudent business case justifications for EP’s transmission capital portfolio and facilitate the required internal and external approvals.

  • Own the transmission capital portfolio, including budget accountability and project oversight.

  • Prepare and manage the multi-year capital investment plan related to the transmission system.

  • Provide direction and guidance to ensure EP’s Transmission system develops in line with technical requirements and in accordance with the Alberta Electric Utilities Act.

  • Ensure that Transmission planning and asset management processes, guidelines and criteria are developed and sustained.

  • Support regulatory requirements including responses to regulatory bodies in areas such as revenue and facility applications. Participate as a regulatory witness supporting the defense of the transmission capital portfolio and planning practices.

  • Encourage and facilitate collaboration and dialogue with peer utilities and other agencies, such as the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), with respect to transmission system planning and asset management principles and practices. 

  • Maintain strong rapport with AESO staff to facilitate timely transmission system development.

  • Work with and lead cross functional internal and external teams.

  • Support the advancement of planning practices, tools, criteria, and standards to enable emerging technologies and support the rapid changes of the electric system (i.e., Large load customers, Distributed Energy Resources, Advanced Metering Infrastructure, Electric Vehicles, etc.)

  • Responsible to act as the APEGA responsible member for the practice of utility planning within ENMAX Power.

Education Required:

  • University degree in Electrical Engineering

  • P.Eng status with The Association of Professionals in Engineering and Geoscience in Alberta (APEGA)

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience within a transmission or distribution utility environment including current or past planning or asset management background

  • Knowledge and experience with oversight of project budget ownership and change management processes

  • Experience contributing to and participating in regulatory proceedings with specific knowledge of Alberta’s transmission regulatory environment

  • Experience with the Alberta regulatory environment, AESO processes, and reliability criteria

  • Knowledge of utility system operation procedures and requirements

  • Knowledge in Asset Management and System Planning Practices and Principles

Location:  This role will be part of our hybrid (home and office) work force with office workspace located at ENMAX Place (141 - 50th Avenue SE, Calgary, AB). You will work from home on Mondays and Fridays and in the office on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
