About the role:
The Electrical Project Manager will report to the Head of Operations and oversee the installation and project management of wired and wireless pre-payment systems across the Insite Energy portfolio. This role also involves managing the electrical components of heat network installation projects, ensuring timely execution, adherence to high-quality standards, and compliance with project deadlines.
The successful candidate will mentor a team of IT Commissioning Engineers, providing guidance, oversight, and support for their professional development. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a proactive approach to delivering seamless project execution.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management:
- Lead and manage Prepayment and Credit installations on heat network projects, from planning through to completion.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, and budgets for electrical works.
- Ensure the timely delivery of Prepayment and Credit installations, ensuring minimal disruption to overall project progress.
- Coordinate with various internal departments to align work with overall project requirements.
- Survey IT projects, providing clear documented reports for internal and external stakeholders and provide support to other employees as and when required.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Supervise, mentor, and support team members, fostering their professional development.
- Conduct regular training sessions to ensure staff are up to date with best practices, industry standards, and company procedures.
- Support domestic & commercial maintenance projects as and when required.
- Provide on-site guidance and troubleshooting for electrical installation and commissioning issues.
Electrical Work:
- Oversee and carry out electrical installations related to heat networks, including wiring, control systems, panels, and electrical sub metering equipment.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant electrical codes and standards.
- Perform regular inspections to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
Collaboration with IT Commissioning Engineers:
- Work closely with the IT commissioning engineer to integrate electrical systems with control and monitoring software.
- Troubleshoot and resolve any issues related to electrical systems and IT commissioning.
- Ensure smooth communication between electrical and IT teams to guarantee the functionality of installed systems.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to health and safety regulations on site.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with relevant legislation, standards, and quality assurance procedures.
- Conduct risk assessments and manage any safety concerns related to electrical installations.
Reporting & Documentation:
- Maintain clear and accurate records of project progress, electrical works, and any issues that arise.
- Provide regular updates to senior management and clients on the status of projects and potential challenges.
Location and working hours:
Primary Location:
Field-based, with occasional meetings in the London (WeWork, Moor Place) and Peterborough (Stuart House) offices.
Travel Requirements:
Available to travel across the UK, including occasional working weeks away from home and overnight stays.
Working Hours:
- 37.5 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 17:30.
- 30-minute lunch break and two 15-minute breaks (unpaid) during each working day
This role requires flexibility and the ability to manage time effectively while balancing fieldwork, office meetings, and travel commitments.
Required skills and attributes:
- Proven experience as an Electrical Project Manager or in a similar role, ideally within the heat networks or energy sector.
- Strong knowledge of electrical installation and commissioning, including relevant codes and safety standards.
- Previous experience leading teams, including training and mentoring junior staff.
- Excellent project management skills with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical electrical and IT-related issues.
- Familiarity with control systems and integration with IT software would be advantageous.
- Relevant electrical qualifications (e.g., City & Guilds, NVQ Level 3) and a valid Electrical Installation License.
Desirable:
- Experience with heat networks or district heating systems.
- Project management certifications (e.g., PMP, Prince2).

- IT knowledge related to commissioning systems for control and monitoring.
