JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Smeal College of Business is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Teaching Studio Operations Specialist to join our team. The College currently operates three teaching studios for the remote-synchronous delivery of multiple Professional Graduate Programs, Executive Education Programs and highly interactive remote meetings. We will be supporting additional academic programs beginning Fall 2025 and Spring 2026. As a key member of our operations crew, the Studio Operations Specialist will be responsible for operating and maintaining the studio equipment from a nearby control room during live classes and sessions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of IT and audiovisual technology, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Live studio production experience is preferred, but not required.

Courses meet on a non-traditional schedule throughout the entire calendar year and include workdays and hours that will frequently be outside the standard M-F, 8-5 hours. As a result, the hours for this position will be flexible to include evenings and weekends as required by course schedules.This is an in-person position.

Duties will include:

  • Operate and monitor all equipment in the studio and control room as well as participant chat to alert instructor to questions and assist users with technical questions.
  • Ensure the smooth and high quality execution of live remote instruction by managing audio levels, video switching, transitions, and effects.
  • Collaborate closely with faculty, instructional designers, and other studio crew members to fulfill instructional requirements and meet expectations.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as they arise, implementing quick and effective solutions to minimize disruptions.
  • Maintain and organize studio equipment, keeping it clean, well-maintained, and in proper working order.
  • Assist with equipment setup and breakdown before and after studio sessions, including microphone placement, camera positioning, and cable routing as needed.
  • Assist faculty and staff with setting up and operating multimedia equipment for lectures, presentations, and other instructional activities.
  • Train faculty, staff, students and guests on the use of studio technology and related equipment, both individually and through the creation of written or video tutorials.
  • Maintain an inventory of studio and control room technology equipment, ensuring proper functionality and performing routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Collaborate with IT staff and/or integrators to resolve complex technical issues and implement system upgrades or enhancements.
  • Lead tours of the space, showcasing technology and answering technical questions about capabilities and limitations of the studio spaces.
  • Work with the larger studio team to identify, test and deploy new studio technology.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technological advancements in IT, AV, and studio production, recommending upgrades or improvements as needed.
  • May supervise staff members, including hiring, development and performance management.

The position requires an associate degree and 4+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

    $51,000.00 - $74,000.00
