Position Summary:
The Director of Post Award Support Services (PASS) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all post-award support services functions at NYU, and the effective administration of sponsored project funds following award acceptance. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations, and facilitates efficient and effective financial management of research grants and contracts. Oversee the daily operations of the post-award support services team, working closely with principal investigators, department administrators, and financial officers to ensure the successful execution of research projects and the seamless management of financial processes.
Qualifications:
Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
Required Experience:
10+ years of experience with federal grants, contracts, and post-award administration. Experience in analysis of allowable costs, monitoring, reconciliations, accounts receivable, and driving metrics for senior management. Extensive successful experience with leading teams, strategic planning, and reporting, coordination with senior leadership, collaboration with faculty, and continuous process improvement.
Preferred Experience:
15+ years in grants accounting and management of sponsored awards experience. Experience with research data reports and reconciliations. Proven track record for working with faculty and continuous improvement. Ability to develop and implement effective policies and procedures in a higher education setting.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Proven ability to manage and lead teams in a fast-paced, high-demand environment. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and sponsor regulations (e.g., Uniform Guidance, OMB Circulars, NIH, NSF, and other funding agency requirements). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail. Must possess extensive knowledge in the post-award lifecycle, including but not limited to financial reporting, billing, AR closeouts, audits etc. Must have extensive Compliance knowledge of grants and contract regulations such as cost accounting standards, sub-recipient monitoring, audit standards, and financial status reporting and billing. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly to non-expert audiences. Extensive ability to explain allowable costs following the sponsor's terms and conditions, especially for Federal awards under Uniform Guidance (UG) to ensure compliance. Demonstrated ability to collaborate across departments and work effectively with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders. Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to work in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines and priorities.
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Extensive knowledge in both pre-award and post-award with sponsored awards and grants administration. Excellent organizational and communication skills and ability to meet defined deadlines. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Strong management skills and the ability to lead teams, effective change, and maintain team morale/professional development. Strong ability to forge and build relationships with all stakeholders at all levels of administration.
Additional Information:
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $180,000.00 to USD $220,000.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
