Job description

We at Online are seeking a skilled Data Architect to join our Data Services division. You will lead the design and implementation of cutting-edge data architectures that elevate business operations and play a pivotal role in shaping the data landscapes of our diverse range of clients. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will analyze business requirements, strategize data solutions, and execute designs that optimize data storage, integration, and accessibility. Additionally, you will offer expert guidance and support to our clients in establishing and reinforcing data governance, data security, architectural standards, and industry best practices. You have deep knowledge of data modelling, ETL processes, and database technologies, and a proven track record of translating intricate business needs into scalable and dependable data architecture solutions.

What you'll do:
  • Strategic Visioning: Lead engaging workshops and collaborative sessions with stakeholders to create clear and concise vision statements that capture the overarching goals and objectives of the data architecture initiative.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Proactively initiate and lead discovery sessions with business stakeholders, delving into their objectives, existing data landscape, challenges, and requirements. You will then leverage these insights to inform the development of robust data architecture solutions.
  • Solution Design: Develop innovative and impactful data architecture solutions by collaborating closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and analysts. From there you will present proposed solutions to client decision-making committees, effectively articulating designs and addressing queries to ensure buy-in.
  • Data Governance: Take ownership of instituting and enforcing data governance protocols, standards, and best practices to maintain elevated data quality standards. Implementation of data models will be aligned with business objectives, ensuring data integrity, precision, and security across large-scale deployments.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a technical leader by providing adept guidance and mentoring to development teams. You will ensure their alignment with architectural principles and standards while exploring emerging data technologies, industry trends, and best practices. Make use of your considerable expertise to optimize database performance and troubleshoot anomalies.

  • What we'd like:
  • 7+ years’ experience in building highly scalable data architectures to support distributed software applications.
  • Proficiency in data modelling, database design, and data architecture principles is essential.
  • Strong familiarity with both relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis).
  • Proven experience with ETL tools, data integration, and data transformation processes.
  • Competence in data governance, quality management, and security practices.
  • Exposure to cloud-based data solutions and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Snowflake).
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Exceptional leadership and collaboration skills, enabling effective teamwork across diverse functions.
  • Experience defining and enforcing good practices and procedures to steward data model changes through the SDLC.
  • Familiarity and comfort working within an Agile development methodology.
  • Solid experience with UML and data modelling tools.
  • University degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering an asset.
