SCOM to SolarWinds Migration Engineer

This role is remote but location must be in the US East Coast. 

Job Overview: 

We are seeking an experienced SCOM to SolarWinds Migration Engineer to lead the transition of monitoring solutions from Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) to SolarWinds. The ideal candidate will have expertise in monitoring tools, system administration, and infrastructure performance optimization. This role involves planning, executing, and optimizing the migration process while ensuring minimal downtime and operational disruption.

Key Responsibilities:

• Migration Strategy & Planning:
  • Assess the current SCOM environment, including existing alerts, custom scripts, dashboards, and monitoring configurations.
  • Develop a detailed migration roadmap for transitioning to SolarWinds, ensuring compatibility and performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define business and technical requirements for monitoring in SolarWinds.
• Implementation & Execution:
  • Install, configure, and optimize SolarWinds monitoring solutions (NPM, SAM, NTA, etc.).
  • Migrate monitoring rules, alerts, and dashboards from SCOM to SolarWinds, ensuring continuity of service.
  • Implement best practices for network, server, database, and application monitoring within SolarWinds.
  • Integrate SolarWinds with other IT systems and tools, ensuring proper automation and reporting.
• Testing & Optimization:
  • Conduct rigorous testing of the SolarWinds environment, validating migrated configurations and alerts.
  • Optimize SolarWinds for scalability, performance, and usability.
  • Ensure compliance with security standards and company policies.
• Support & Documentation:
  • Provide training and knowledge transfer to the IT team on SolarWinds usage and best practices.
  • Develop comprehensive documentation, including configuration settings, migration procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve post-migration issues while fine-tuning performance.

Qualifications & Skills:

Required:

• 5+ years of experience in IT infrastructure monitoring and management.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft SCOM and SolarWinds monitoring tools.
• Strong knowledge of SolarWinds modules (NPM, SAM, NTA, SCM, VNQM, etc.).
• Expertise in Windows Server administration, Active Directory, and PowerShell scripting.
• Familiarity with network monitoring protocols (SNMP, WMI, ICMP, NetFlow).
• Experience with SQL Server and database performance monitoring.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with cloud monitoring (Azure Monitor, AWS CloudWatch).
• Knowledge of ITIL best practices and service management frameworks.
• Certifications in SolarWinds, Microsoft, or related technologies (e.g., MCSA, MCSE, SolarWinds Certified Professional).
