About Us

Atomic is a venture studio that co-founds companies by pairing founders with the best ideas, teams, resources, and funding those with the most potential. When entrepreneurs co-found Atomic, they team up with an experienced group of operators who have started dozens of companies and created billions of dollars in enterprise value. Industry disruptors like Bungalow, Found, Hims & Hers, Homebound, OpenStore, and Replicant all started at Atomic, along with dozens more.

Founded in 2012 by serial entrepreneur Jack Abraham, Atomic is headquartered in Miami and San Francisco with a distributed team across North America.

Company Overview

We’re a pre-launch company backed by Atomic VC, building a tech-enabled platform that supports seniors navigating life-changing specialty care. Our mission is to help them maximize their quality of life within a complex, high-cost healthcare system.

We’re looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join as a foundational member of our engineering team, reporting to the Engineering Lead. In this role, you’ll take on technical leadership and architecture ownership while staying hands-on in code. You’ll help set the technical direction, build scalable systems, and shape our early engineering culture.

This is a rare opportunity to define the future of a mission-driven startup, working alongside a small, high-caliber team to solve deeply meaningful problems with immediate real-world impact.

What You'll Do
  • Develop a deep understanding of our vision, the complexities of our business model, and the challenges faced by our patients and care team.
  • Work directly with our pilot partners, clinicians, and patients to build elegant technical solutions that address their needs.
  • Define and drive both the medium and long-term technical strategy, balancing business needs, user feedback, and startup agility.
  • Own the architecture across the stack (backend, frontend, and infrastructure), ensuring scalability, reliability, and flexibility.
  • Lead the development and launch of our minimum viable product (MVP), with a strong emphasis on backend systems.
  • Establish a data engineering strategy to unify disparate data sources into an analysis-ready state.
  • Make foundational improvements to our infrastructure and lay out the medium-term technical roadmap.
  • Continue to develop and Identify practical applications and use cases for LLMs and related AI advancements to enhance our platform.

  • Our Tech Stack & Architecture
  • Backend: Rust (primary), Python (supporting services)
  • Frontend: TypeScript, React
  • Infrastructure: AWS, Pulumi (TypeScript) for IaC
  • Data: PostgreSQL, Valkey

  • What You'll Bring
  • 6+ years of professional software development experience
  • Expertise in backend development, system design, and distributed systems.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and either Rust or Python.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi a plus).
  • Deep understanding of databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and data modeling.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • A mentorship mindset—you enjoy helping other engineers grow.

  • Bonus Points
  • Experience in early-stage startups (Pre-seed, Seed, or Series A).
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards (HL7, FHIR, claims data).
  • Experience working in regulated environments (security, compliance, PHI).
  • Hands-on experience with Rust in production.
  • Exposure to Machine Learning models in production.
  • Collaborating with Product as a thought partner to develop innovative solutions from ambiguous requirements.
  • Happen to live in Austin, TX

  • Engineering Culture
  • Small, high-impact team (you’ll be engineer #2!)
  • Direct collaboration with the founding team
  • Emphasis on technical excellence, with Rust as a core backend language
  • Data-driven development, with rapid iteration based on real user feedback
  • Security and compliance as first-class concerns

  • How We Work
  • Async-first communication
  • Direct access to users and stakeholders
  • Rapid prototyping and iteration
  • Developer experience as a priority (automated testing, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code)
  • If you're excited about building from the ground up, solving complex problems, and making a real-world impact, we’d love to hear from you.

    $160,000 - $200,000 a year/ Salary plus early stage equity.

We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.
