As well as your well-honed PR skills, this role includes an opportunity to develop new ones in support of the team that manages the MWC and M360 series media partnership programme.”
Rebecca Atherley, PR Director

About the Team

The PR team plays a vital role in managing the GSMA's image and communication with the public. We are responsible for building, protecting, and enhancing the GSMA's reputation through strategic communication and relationship-building.

Our media relations work includes proactively building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets, as well as reactively handling incoming inquiries. We also manage crisis communication by developing strategies to protect the company's reputation.

The PR team creates content primarily aimed at media, such as press releases, blogs, and media alerts, to convey the GSMA's messages effectively. We plan and support activities around events, such as MWC Barcelona, company announcements, reports, and interviews, ensuring our spokespeople are prepared and briefed in advance. Additionally, we may engage in advocacy and lobbying through media to represent the company's interests in policy discussions.

About the Role

As the voice of the mobile sector, the GSMA plays an active role in developing this dynamic, global industry. Ensuring the smooth running of the media and industry analyst registration programme and press office is a crucial aspect of our PR success, and it will be a priority for this role.

A key part of this success is the strategy development and flawless execution of the press office and media registration of the event, and you will bring hands-on support to process media registration applications, backed by your analysis and knowledge of the media and industry analysts.

Knowledge of Spanish and Chinese media landscape is an advantage, as well as Asia Pacific, MENA, South Sahara Africa, and the US. This will be essential to support media registration approvals processes as well as developing media strategies for our events and media partnerships.

Using PR and campaign management and activation skills, your role will include creating PR content, media relations and helping to manage PR campaigns. We are looking for a senior PR manager with excellent media pitching skills and understanding of the media, who combines creative and strategic thinking with strong project management. The senior PR manager will play a critical role in creating and sharing stories across every possible channel to reach relevant audiences and ensure the work we are doing is having the right impact with the right people.

An experienced senior PR manager will bring fresh ideas to join an experienced PR team supporting internal and external stakeholders across countries and global regions.

In this new role, you will report to the PR Director responsible for the global MWC and M360 series. You will support the development and implementation of PR plans to support the work of the GSMA Outreach teams with the intention of successfully supporting our events. It is a great opportunity for an ambitious PR manager to shape this new position by bringing their experience, skills and fresh ideas for success.

About You

  • You will have substantial skills and experience, notably in strategic planning, PR content creation and writing skills. With your strong media relations know-how, you will have a deep knowledge of the global media. This role requires demonstrable strong project management skills, a strategic focus on goals and attention to detail, ideally delivering PR campaigns in the telecoms and/or tech sector.

  • The role will require an experienced and skilled creator to help develop PR strategies as well as content such as blogs, articles and press releases, as well as help prepare spokespeople with the creation of briefing books, and with measurement and PR reporting. You have strong media pitching skills combined with a good understanding of geopolitics and the intersection with technology and potential implications for businesses.

  • With proven editing, writing and copywriting skills and an ability to create PR content including press releases, media alerts, blogs, op eds/by-lined articles, it helps if you also have experience of working with AI.

  • You will show how your can-do attitude and flexibility in a fast-changing business environment has given you the skills and experience to pivot quickly as needed. It would be an advantage to have these skills: a working knowledge of telecoms and IT industry analysts, and business fluency in Spanish and/or Chinese.

  • Capabilities:

  • With your proven PR and campaign activation skills, you will become an essential part of the team ensuring media coverage. You will ensure the smooth running of the event press office and media & industry analyst registration programme. Using your knowledge and experience, you will develop and maintain relationships with key members of the media and influencers of importance to the organisation and its work.

  • You will support the media partnership process for all our events using your current skills and developing news ones as needed.
