Job description

WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH?

This is the Nike matrix: You will report into the Global Apparel Materials Team (GLAM) and support your development partners in seasonal color developments. You are a critical team member of the color development community and sought out as the expert resource. You will work in partnership with Product Integrity, Color Design, Apparel Design, Product Managers, Technical Development, Product Creation Centers, and all (GLAM) Global Apparel Materials Team members.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for detail oriented color expert, with strong analytical, communication and leadership skills. You will be an important member of our color development team who will analyze color developments, ensure accuracy of color requirements, and keep appropriate documentation for on-time commercialization. In this Senior role you will possess a strong working knowledge of apparel industry color methods, systems, and research new technologies and innovations for implementation with cross functional partners. You should have a passionate drive to improve system and process, mentorship, and ability to help positively lead and influence the teams you work with. 

What you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Apparel, Textiles, or a related field or equivalent combination of education, experience or training
  • Minimum 3 years color, textile, or product development experience
  • Strong written and oral communication skills including meeting facilitation and presentations
  • Understanding of the application of color on materials 
  • Knowledge of apparel and material construction, including garment construction 
  • Strong organization and multi-tasking skills 
  • Strong information seeking-skills, personal drive, and ability to motivate others  
  • Ability to work independently and cooperatively in a diverse group 
  • Ability to network and utilize internal and external resources 
  • Self-starter attitude and the ability to lead and work well with others in a fast-paced team 
  • Proficiency with MS Office & Datacolor  
  • 5-10% travel required 
  • Knowledge of heather materials and techniques 
  • Knowledge of product creation process and the apparel business 
  • Ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives
  • Experience with Digital color systems, technology experience and understanding PLM systems

WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON?

As a Global Apparel Materials (GLAM) Senior Color Developer, you will be the main point of contact partnering with cross functional teams to execute seasonal color direction. You will use your color knowledge and collaboration skills to help execute design led color palettes and be responsible for on-time approvals for buy ready commercialization. You will help lead and implement the design and development of tools and processes to support color execution for Nike Apparel. You will facilitate and track lab dips for seasonal initiatives and identify and address key issues and challenges in color development. You will ensure on time development according to critical dates and gates. In this role, you will have the opportunity to interact with business teams involved in design, materials, product merchandising, product creation, material manufacturing and product integrity. You will also have a responsibility to help onboard and mentor new team members, research new innovations, and lead and implement best practices.

  • Research new technologies, gather innovation trends and data
  • Core research on the dyeing properties of material classifications.
  • Apply independent problem-solving skills to proactively identify and mitigate color risks with vendors and cross-functional partners, including partnership into standards strategy
  • Mentor teammates and lead cross-functional teams on color achievability impact on complex dimensions/styles/materials
  • Lead color development independently and collaborating with vendor as required
  • Ensure Nike official colorfastness tests are completed for appropriate end-use & region.
  • Knowledge of colorfastness testing to communicate with cross functional partners on testing issues, work with vendor on colorfastness failures, and mentor team.
  • Understand vendor capability & manage vendor communication
  • Utilize weekly buy ready reports to prioritize color development work & drive buy ready optimization
  • Utilize analytics to improve the prediction of color performance metrics
  • Lead advanced process and systems optimization initiatives
  • Strong understanding of digital color review, with the ability to review, approve, and communicate with the vendor on color using digital data only.
  • Able to use strong digital knowledge to establish new review processes and mentor color community.
