CG Stereo Compositor

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada ie. Citizen, PR, Open Work Permit.

At this time, we’re pleased to offer this role as an option to work from home OR work from our Vancouver studio in the beautiful Gastown area, close to the Waterfront Station in Downtown. (Remote is not available outside of BC; there is no hybrid)

Summary of Position
The CG Stereo Compositor is responsible for compositing Stereoscopic 3D imagery. This position requires experience with Stereo fundamentals, a keen eye for detail, deep knowledge of what makes a convincing image, and the ability to work collaboratively and creatively in a deadline-driven environment.

Job Functions

  • Create comps that meet the creative vision and technical standards of Director and Stereo Supervisor.
  • Develop and produce creative and convincing imagery combining stage and CG elements:
  • Apply knowledge of photography, color theory, composition, stage/CG lighting.
  • Apply compositing techniques that may include extractions, color grading, tracking, CG integration, grain management, deep compositing, 2D and 3D compositing and Roto/Paint.
  • Apply techniques to manage Stereo imagery including identifying and correcting rivalry, generating and using disparity maps, adjusting volume alignment and floating windows, managing native (left/right eye) source material, and converting into stereo single-eye source material.
  • Establish and share workflows, tools, best practices to support shot production, as needed and participate in Look Development of shots and sequences, working with artists across disciplines.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with Artists, Production Management, Creative Leads and Technical Support Teams across disciplines to troubleshoot and achieve the creative and technical goals of a shot.
  • Maintain aesthetic integrity and technical standards of work with consistency and keen attention to detail.
  • Help develop and maintain custom tools, templates, scripts and documentation for Compositing Team.

Qualifications 

  • 3-5+ years Digital Compositing experience, preferably on feature films.
  • Experience with Ocula (or comparable) suite of tools for managing Stereo imagery.
  • Experience in Nuke, Nuke Studio/Hiero, and Photoshop (familiarity with Silhouette, a plus).
  • Experience developing custom Nuke toolsets (including Python3 or Nuke NDK), a plus.
  • Experience with Linux (or other Unix) operating system.
  • Understand VFX pipeline fundamentals, including shooting, editorial turnovers, modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, rendering, compositing, and DI (Virtual Production experience, a plus).
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently under tight deadlines in production environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse artistic talents within teams and one-on-one.
  • Excellent time management, proactive approach to problem solving, and respect for deadlines.

Additional information

  • British Columbia Employees Pay Range: $35 - $55 (The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position)
  • Zoic does not cover relocation costs.
  • Any and all WFH positions require the candidate to have a reliable internet connection via ethernet and work on Pacific Standard Time.
