Job description

Portland Webworks Inc. is looking for an individual with excellent communication skills to work in a part-time, temporary capacity on a website redesign project.

This role reports to the Director of User Experience and will work hand in hand with UX Designers and Content Specialists, as well as with other members of the project team in development and project management. This role will contribute to a content cataloging and analysis effort aimed at evaluating the current state of content for a state agency in the health and human services space, as part of a broader project to plan a new website implementation for this agency. To be successful, the Web Content Specialist at Portland Webworks must bring strong communication skills, attention to detail, and an interest in helping website users have a positive experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Work independently in an established process / system through an online review of webpage copy, files, documents, and multimedia.
  • Record observations about existing content including capturing information about the content's relative quality and value, its composition, and its fit into the broader communications strategy for the agency.
  • Communicate and share progress and blockers proactively with other members of the remote content analysis team and coordinate effectively on the assignment of pages/sections.
  • Manage your own time and monitor your pace of progress to calibrate if needed, in order to contribute to completion of the review within the project timeline.

Portland Webworks primarily focuses on large scale website implementations for the public sector, so a desire to make a meaningful impact in health and social services is at the core of our service offerings and mission. This is a great chance to gain valuable experience in the areas of software development, web and digital communications, content strategy, and user experience.

This role is anticipated to be 3 months in duration with a part-time (20 hours per week) allocation, but there is flexibility available, such as full-time allocation for a shorter duration. The project and this engagement will conclude by the end of May 2025. Generally, daytime east coast working hours are expected. Applicants should expect to use their own computer or laptop device and internet connection. A background check is required for this role, and an additional check is required for our state agency client.

Portland Webworks maintains one of the most progressive benefits programs in Maine. Our team culture, our respect for our personnel, and our generous compensation packages have earned our company recognition as one of the "Best Places to Work" in the entire State consistently over the past decade.
