Job description

Zumo is the FCA registered, blockchain-powered digital asset partner for individuals and institutions.  

Zumo App, our consumer crypto wallet, allows individuals to exchange, store, send and spend cryptocurrency alongside their ordinary money.  

Zumo Enterprise, our B2B crypto-as-a-service platform, helps banks and financial institutions to roll out compliant and ESG-aligned crypto products.

Job Purpose

As a result of business expansion and growth, we are looking for a Data Protection Manager to join the second-line Risk & Compliance team. We are seeking applicants interested in an initial 6-month fixed-term contract.

This is a key role to lead the support of all second line of defence data protection compliance work across all of Zumo’s activities, including business-wide projects.

The primary purpose of the role is to consolidate Zumo’s existing data protection framework and to create a data protection compliance maturity roadmap aligned Zumo’s strategic aspirations. In doing so, the role holder will be Zumo’s data protection subject matter expert; and will understand, translate and give advice on existing and future data protection legislation applicable to Zumo, to stakeholders (both internal and potentially external).

Reporting Line

This role reports to the Head of Risk and Compliance.  The role-holder will also work closely with the C-suite, various team(s) within Zumo and relevant third parties.

Salary 

£65,000-£75,000 p/a 

Initial 6-month fixed-term contract

Key Responsibilities
  • Be seen as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert throughout the business on data protection. Key contact for all data protection advice into projects across the business.
  • Assess data protection compliance within Zumo and spearhead the implementation and/or scheduling of both corrective and remedial actions, on a risk-based approach.
  • Develop, implement and review data protection compliance policies, assessments and standards (including privacy policies, standard contractual clauses/addendums) to ensure all external statutory and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Lead the production of data protection monitoring plan(s), conduct periodic assurance activities and devise supporting reporting mechanism(s).
  • Represent compliance, where appropriate to educate and add value on data protection matters.
  • Input into Zumo’s information security policy and standards and support the business to align operationally with ISO27001.
  • Support the Head of Risk and Compliance in the handling of escalated data complaints, should any unexpectedly arise.

Requirements

  • Data Protection qualification and minimum 5 years hands-on relevant business experience within financial services. We need someone that can step into the role with minimal technical support.
  • Demonstrable stakeholder engagement and relationship management experience, we’re looking a consultative approach from the role holder to be able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels and challenge/influence in a constructive way to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Highly self-motivated, able to work independently at pace and with attention to detail.
  • Aptitude for resolving compliance problems, finding practical ways to deal with ambiguity and applying existing knowledge to novel situations.
  • Structured and methodical approach.
  • Desirable: familiarisation with blockchain and AI
  • Desirable: understanding of DORA and/or UAE data protection regulations
