The purpose of this role is to manage litigation, undertake legal research, undertake legal project work for EML business units and reports to the Legal Manager. Working as part of a Claims Business Unit this role will be responsible for ensuring EML performance targets and organisational objectives are met while providing a high level of service delivery to our stakeholders.

You will also provide technical advice on legislative, regulatory, legal, policy and guidelines requirements affecting workers’ compensation claims and employer premium to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.

This will be a permanent, full time position based in our Sydney office with flexibility to work from home 3 days a week. 

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing technical advice on legislative, regulatory, legal, policy and guidelines requirements affecting workers’ compensation claims to enable sound, evidence-based and legally accurate decision making.
  • Managing, and reviewing legal advice associated with common law damages claims and statutory workers’ compensation benefits.
  • Keeping up to date with case law and precedents affecting claims, premium and the scheme.
  • Providing practical technical advice about strategic management, both generally and in relation to specific claims.
  • Collecting and reporting on identified scheme trends and individual cases.
  • Providing assistance with advice and/or drafting of legal notices and correspondence.

ABOUT YOU

  • Bachelor of Laws or other tertiary studies in personal injury/workers compensation, legal studies/jurisprudence and alternative dispute resolution considered favourably.
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role with strong workers compensation claims management experience including experience with workers compensation litigation
  • Excellent understanding of the Workers Compensation legislation and the associated regulations
