At Torrens University Australia, making a difference is in our DNA. As a Certified B Corporation, we belong to a global community of future-focused companies using business as a force for good. We believe in the transformative power of education to change lives, families, communities – and the world. That’s why we’re on a mission to increase access to higher education, so learners from all walks of life can chase their dreams.

Just like our students, our employees are a diverse group who want to make an impact. When you join us, we give you the freedom to be bold, creative, and courageous – with flexible working arrangements that allow you to bring your best. We’ve built a culture that celebrates community, collaboration, and innovation, where people love what they do.

What’s the job?

Join us as a Senior Cloud Engineer, where you'll play a crucial role in managing and optimising our expansive cloud ecosystem, with an emphasis on Microsoft O365 and Azure, but also inclusive of a multi-cloud environment. Your expertise will be pivotal in enhancing security, driving automation initiatives, and integrating or migrating our on-premise technology with advanced Azure solutions. In this dynamic role, you'll have the opportunity to shape the future of our cloud infrastructure, driving innovation and transformative growth across our organization.

Day-to-day accountabilities:

You'll take the lead in optimising and securing our cloud services with a particular focus on O365 and Azure. Your responsibilities will include automating processes, monitoring performance, and integrating on premise technology with our cloud solutions.

  • O365 Services: Oversee the administration and continuous evolution of O365 services including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, OneDrive, and Power Platform to enable staff and our online learning.

  • Azure Infrastructure: Manage Azure resources such as Virtual Machines, EntraID, Azure Active Directory, Azure SQL Database, and Azure App Services and other specialised services.

  • Automation and Optimisation: Develop automation and tools to streamline cloud operations and improve efficiency and cost optimisation.

  • Multi-Cloud and Infrastructure Support: Provide expertise in areas related to cloud infrastructure and interdependent services and applications.

  • Security and Compliance: Ensure all cloud solutions adhere to security best practices and compliance requirements.

  • Collaboration and Support: Work closely with IT teams, faculty, and staff to understand their needs and provide technical support.

  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated with the latest cloud technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems. Consider adoption of additional available services in O365 and Azure to mature the use of technology landscape particularly in relation to efficiency, monitoring, automation, and privacy and security.

  • Design and Implement Cloud Solutions: Deploy scalable and secure cloud solutions using O365 and Azure services.

  • Drive innovation: Evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies within the Microsoft O365 and Azure ecosystem.

Who you are

Extensive experience with Azure technologies is required, and familiarity with AWS is essential. Your skills in automation, performance monitoring, and system integration are complemented by an innovative approach that ensures compliance and efficiency through advanced technology adoption and clear communication.

  • Cross-Platform Flexibility: We are actively migrating from AWS to GCP, so a willingness and enthusiasm to upskill across platforms is a must. Our team will provide the training and resources needed for you to succeed in both environments.

  • Automation Skills: Strong experience with automation tools such as Terraform and Ansible, and proficiency in Git for version control.

  • Infrastructure Knowledge: A deep understanding of Linux systems (SSH, shell scripting) and performance monitoring tools.

  • Problem Solving: Proven ability to analyse complex issues, design creative solutions, and proactively address cloud infrastructure challenges.

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

We're transitioning from AWS, so experience with the following AWS services is highly beneficial:

  • EC2, Lambda, and Elastic Load Balancing (ALB + NLB)

  • RDS (MySQL, PostgreSQL), S3, EFS, and CloudFront (+ Functions)

  • VPC, CloudWatch, and Code Pipeline
