Aurora Mental Health & Recovery (AMHR) is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Grant Accounting Specialist to join our Financial Services team. In this full-time role, you will be responsible for accurately tracking and billing federal, state, and local grants, ensuring compliance with regulations and deadlines. This position requires strong knowledge of GAAP and basic accounting functions, such as reviewing invoices, preparing journal entries, and billing. As a key liaison between program managers, funders, and external stakeholders, your effective communication skills will be essential in supporting the financial health and compliance of our organization. Schedule. Monday - Friday with 8:00 am - 5:00 pm with a lunch break in the middle. We have a hybrid work schedule where you can enjoy working remotely half-time and work in the office 2 days per week (In-Office days are primarily Tuesdays and Thursdays)!
Salary for this role. The starting wage is based on experience and company equity. Paid bi-weekly.

About the team.
The Financial Services team at AMHR handles all financial operations including billing and collections for services, managing payments and payroll, and financial reporting and assessment. The team is comprised of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and Accounting Specialists, Staff Accountants, Payroll, Housing Coordinators, and team leaders.
Essential Duties:
- With the Controller and Grant Accounting team, handles all State, local and federal grants, awards and managed care contracting activities, processing all internal paperwork from receipt of award, to internal approval, to securing appropriate signature, and distribution of final grants and contracts to appropriate staff and Teams.
- Assist with maintenance of organization's database tracking of all incoming contracts along with filing and storage systems for all grants, awards, managed care contracts and other agreements.
- Schedule and coordinate Center Grants & Contracts Committee meetings made up of various Team members involved with specific grants, awards or managed care contracts.
- Attend webinar, grant trainings and meetings to stay updated on grant processes.
- Assist and interface with the organization's CEO, Controller, Director of Grant Strategy and Information, Grant Project Leaders and Teams relating to grants and contracts.
- Set up appropriate general ledger tracking and monitoring along with other reporting to meet timely reporting to manage status of grant funds including amount awarded, expended and remaining balances available to be drawn down by the organization.
- Coordinate efforts with team members to insure all required items are completed for accurate and timely billing, invoice preparation and reporting for grants and other awards.
- Verify expenditures are eligible to be billed to the assigned grants. Will assess payroll reports to verify time on grants is accurate to the budget and will recode any expenditure that is not within the guidelines of the budget. Assist in monthly closing processes.
- Work with the Director of Grants Administration, Controller, and Chief Financial Officer as needed with development of grant budgets.
- Provide monthly review and status reports to ensure that monies are being utilized as intended and notifying the programmatic grant manager of any variances that could cause unspent grant funds.
- Ensure grant and award funds are drawn down on a regular basis consistent with grant periods.
- Complete and submit quarterly, semi-annual, or annual reporting as needed for assigned grants.
- Cross-train with Grants & Contracts Administrator on the compliance of federal grants.
- Assist with the Year-End external audit requirements for all related grants. Will also be responsible for any audit of assigned grants.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Preferred: Bachelors' Degree or above.
- Two years' of general/grant accounting experience
- Basic computer skills with general experience in Microsoft Office and excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Detail oriented.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Preferred: Knowledge of accounting software and audit processes.
Required Vaccination.
