Start Pay ~ $72,000 annually, with the final salary determined by geographic market rate for the selected candidate.
This role will work from home and can be located in any state in the United States where Rise Against Hunger currently operates.
About the Role
Rise Against Hunger U.S. is a part of a confederation of a global network that is dedicated to fighting hunger with the combined approach of food distribution and resilience programing. The Nutrition Technical Advisor will be responsible for the advancement of the nutrition vision of Rise Against Hunger programs focused on Food Security, Education, and Economics by managing internal nutrition strategic initiatives. This position will serve as an advisor to Rise Against Hunger impact partners and global member offices as needed to ensure the quality of implemented technical activities at all levels. As a member of the Global Impact department, you will be part of a team with creative doers and dreamers, who want to make a difference. We work together combining our global perspective and contextual framework(s) to create practical solutions to meet both food and nutrition security toughest challenges in the most vulnerable communities around the world. This position will be remote, and will include 15-20% international travel to project locations.
Who Are You
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Dietitian or Global Health is required
- Certified Nutritionist or Registered Dietitian is preferred
- At least 2 years of international development field experience in nutrition. Experience working in the community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM) and young child feeding (YCF) programs is a plus
- Knowledge of conducting anthropometric measurements and assessments is a plus
- Experience, education or knowledge related to hunger, international development and/or non-profits
- Knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Salesforce and nutritional software analysis tools.
What You Will Own and Improve
40% IMPACT PARTNER AND GLOBAL MEMBER OFFICE SUPPORT
Provide collaborative implementation assistance to Rise Against Hunger Impact Partners and Global Member Network through technical advising, curriculum development, Training of Trainers cascade models and monitoring of nutrition activities to ensure Rise Against Hunger programs have a positive nutritional impact in communities we serve. Strengthen technical capacity of Impact Partner programs through technical training, coaching, and cross-context learning to ensure ongoing program quality and nutrition outcomes are met. Conduct periodic nutrition assessments and evaluations for targeted populations that receive Rise Against Hunger meals in support of Sustainable Development Goal of Ending Hunger. Capture key findings and learnings to develop recommendations for improvement to Nutritional Tools and Guidelines. Collaborate with Agriculture Technical Advisor, Program Managers and the Monitoring Evaluation and Learning team in planning, preparation and management of specific program/project assessments, evaluations program/project progress.
35% NUTRITION TOOLS & STANDARDS - Responsible for developing all tools and standards for nutrition interventions.Develop highly effective nutritional interventions for Pathways to End Hunger programs (Nourishing Lives, Empowering Communities and Emergency Response) in the thematic areas of Food Security, Education, and Economics. Lead and develop nutrition guidelines for Rise Against Hunger meal utilization. Develop and test global nutrition and behavior change communication (BCC) tools that support quality measurements and standards. Review, evaluate and maintain all specifications from both nutritional and quality assurance aspects of our meals. Lead the development of an institutional nutrition knowledge management system. This includes maintaining documentation of all specifications from both a nutritional and quality assurance aspect of our meals. Develop guidance to ensure Rise Against Hunger food security and agriculture related programs uphold Rise Against Hunger standards of nutrition-sensitive and nutrition selective programming. Co-create training resources and informational posters that are context specific using culturally relevant items, foods, background and language to strengthen resilience in communities we serve.
15% INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL THOUGHT LEADERSHIP AND LEARNING- Contribute to both internal and external learning opportunities and thought leadership. Including International conferences and white paper development. Serve as a key nutritional and technical subject matter expert and resource for our internal and external stakeholders including Rise Against Hunger donors. Ensure effective bi-directional implementation, communication and learning between Rise Against Hunger and Impact Partners. Assist in organizing both internal and external thought leadership activities that include blogs, visual infographics and impact storytelling about nutrition-led activities. In collaboration with Senior MEL participate and co-facilitate in Rise Against Hunger sponsored conferences, Learning Agendas platforms Mid-Project Reviews and After Action Reviews to ensure Pathway to End Hunger programs are on track to meet objectives and deliverables. Collaborate with Rise Against Hunger impact partners and global member offices to develop thought leadership and stories of change pieces that highlight locally-led development. Assist with internal Rise Against Hunger learning opportunities via powerpoint presentations, presenting on internal calls with Rise Against Hunger employees, board members and donors. Represent Rise Against Hunger in academic space, inter-agency working groups, and various global/regional nutrition spaces.
10% GLOBAL MEMBER COLLABORATION AND WORKING GROUPS - Participate actively in coordination mechanisms including participating in nutrition technical working groups with Rise Against Hunger global offices to establish training content and robust nutrition programing. Establish collaborative working relationships with Rise Against Hunger member offices and technical advisors. Coordinate with Rise Against Hunger Member offices and technical advisors on nutrition-led activities. Collaboratively work with Rise Against Hunger member offices on shared databases and dashboards.. Travel to Rise Against Hunger Member offices to assist with internal capacity strengthening of nutrition related activities. Participate in 2 Rise Against Hunger volunteer meal packaging events annually.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in relevant fields including International development, public health, food policy, applied agricultural economics, nutrition, and/or international development studies.
- Minimum of seven years related experience in food security programs
- Strong computer skills with knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio. Computer savvy to be able to easily pick up additional software programs.
- Proven experience in project management, donor/relationship management, donor compliance and requirements, budget management, financial analysis, and coordinating processes across stakeholders, ideally supporting projects in low-medium income countries.
- Proven ability to work in a complex environment, multitask, and manage multiple international programs and deadlines simultaneously to deliver results.
- Spent time traveling or living in low and middle income countries.
- Demonstrated organizational, time management, and analytical skills.

- Experience working with for-profit or corporate/ CSR engagements or direct fundraising efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in relevant fields including International development, public health, food policy, applied agricultural economics, nutrition, and/or international development studies or Bachelors degree with ten years of experience in an aforementioned area of focus.
- Experience with WASH, Agriculture, Nutrition, Monitoring & Evaluation, or Child Protection.
- Experience working on or other donor foundations/programs preferred;
- Multi-sectoral and multi-cultural experience.
