Job description

Based in Washington, DC with offices throughout the country, ACS CAN works to encourage elected officials and candidates to make cancer a top national priority.

The senior policy analyst is responsible for policy and legislative analysis, development of policy materials and products, preparation of regulatory comment letters, and overall support for the advocacy agenda of ACS CAN at the federal, state and local levels. This position has a particular focus on prevention, including but not limited to tobacco control, cancer screening, and nutrition and food security. Senior Analysts will have a specific portfolio in prevention, access to care, health equity, and/or research as detailed in the job posting prior to hiring.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Developing required expertise on issues within the portfolio to support advocacy efforts that promote the mission agenda.

  • Analyzing state and federal legislative proposals, federal regulations, and developing responses.

  • Literature research to compile and synthesize evidence related to policy issues.

  • Creating policy products that support the federal, state and local advocacy agendas, including fact sheets, regulatory comment letters, white papers, infographics, position statements, toolkits, talking points, and model legislation.

  • Working collaboratively with multiple teams across ACS and ACS CAN to produce consistent, evidence-based work products for multiple stakeholders that clearly communicate policy positions on legislative issues.  

  • Contributing to regulatory review and analysis as assigned on priority cancer policy and health policy issues.

  • Other duties as assigned.

FORMAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5-7 years related work experience or equivalent combination of graduate education and experience. 

COMPETENCIES/SKILLS

  • Public policy writing and research skills and experience.

  • Familiarity with health policy issues specifically tobacco control, nutrition and food security, screening, or health equity issues. 

  • Knowledge of or experience with legislative and regulatory processes at the local, state and federal levels of government.

The starting rate is $85,000 to $98,000. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
