Summary/Objective

At Hogan, we are driven by the core purpose of helping people and organizations succeed using data-driven talent insights. Data is core to everything we do to assist our customers. As a Data Architect, you will report to the VP of IT, and will be responsible for the technical data architecture across our range of systems, as well as leading the charge to design and enact a well-rounded data governance approach for the company. The scope of data covered will be data for both internal and external consumption, and will include operational and decision support data. The Data Architect must be able to work with technical resources as well as representatives from numerous business units. The Data Architect will work closely with Hogan’s Enterprise Architect (software architect) to ensure we deliver solutions that are scalable, secure, available, valuable, and appropriate for the needs of the business.


Key Focus Areas

The Data Architect must be adept at a technical level, with experience to make appropriate technical trade-offs to produce a data architecture that will allow development teams to easily access data directly, and to allow for integration across a variety of software platforms. The Data Architect must also have the experience and knowledge to lead Hogan in the development and implementation of a data governance framework. 


Essential Functions

  • Assess Hogan’s strengths and weaknesses with regards to data to develop a roadmap for how to best leverage data to help Hogan, its partners, and customers gain the most value from Hogan’s trove of data.
  • Develop an effective data strategy to leverage historical data, as well as current data stores and future data.
  • Establish effective data governance policies to enable leveraging data to its fullest.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science. 
  • 8+ years working with data architecture. 
  • 8+ years working with data governance design and implementation.? 
  • At least two years leading data architecture and data governance projects.
  • Experience with integration of data in all types of forms (SQL stores, no-SQL stores, flat files, unstructured, and others).
  • Experience with Azure and Databricks is a plus.
  • Experience leveraging a variety of data stores for various forms of AI.


Essential Technical Data Competencies

  • Lead the design and implementation of a corporate data architecture.
  • Develop data models to precisely represent the organization’s data architecture, including its data sources, data flows, and data dependencies.
  • Build and maintain data models and documentation to accurately represent data asset location, structure, and usage.
  • Produce and maintain a data catalog to serve as the hub of information about Hogan’s data assets.
  • Ensure data security and compliance working in conjunction with the Information Security Officer and development teams.
  • Provide oversight in the selection and implementation of data tools and technologies.
  • Provide data guidance and support to teams and analysts.
  • Work with the Enterprise Architect so the software architecture and data architecture are complimentary.
  • Develop a data architecture that eliminates data silos making data available and accessible to all stakeholders as appropriate.


Essential Business Data Governance Competencies

  • Collaborate on data strategy with business and IT leaders.
  • Create a corporate data governance strategy working with business and technical leaders, to include defining data policies and standards, and establishing data quality and data lineage programs with a goal to ensure data is accurately maintained and secured while complying with regulatory requirements.
  • Create and implement policies, processes, and procedures to ensure the proper management, protection, and compliance of data assets. 
  • Lead and contribute to data-related projects and initiatives.
  • Stay up to date with emerging trends related to data governance.
