Job description

The intern will participate in projects related to cancer/health disparity research, learning skills for scientific research by conducting data analyses, presenting analytical results to both internal and external collaborators, drafting research proposals and manuscripts and performing other scientific activities under the supervision of senior researchers.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile and analyze data to examine effects of individual and neighborhood factors on disparities in cancer outcomes.
  • Review and abstract data from published studies of structural racism and cancer outcomes.
  • Prepare tables and figures for scientific presentations.
  • Potential to lead or co-lead a research project in health disparities.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • REQUIRED: Data analysis experience: R, SAS, or Stata programming skills in social epidemiology research environment. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills.
  • PREFERRED: Experience working with complex survey data (e.g., National Health Interview Survey, Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System)

EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 2 years of college, relevant coursework.

INTERN ELIBILITY:

Undergraduate and graduate students must meet the following criteria:

  • Full-time student, completed their freshman year of college;

  • Have a minimum of a B average (cumulative 3.0 on 4.0 scale);

  • Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester (Note: an internship assignment may coincide with the student’s last term/trimester.)

  • Interns may be required to provide documentation of their participation in a bona-fide college or graduate school intern program under which their ACS internship either qualifies them to receive course credit OR fulfills a graduation/coursework requirement.

  • Remotely

TIME:

  • Approximately 17.5 hours/week

The pay rate is $15/hour. The final candidate's relevant experience/skills will be considered before an offer is extended. Actual starting pay will vary based on non-discriminatory factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, experience, skills, specialty, and education.
