Hastings Insurance is currently looking for a Personal Lines Underwriter! The Personal Lines Underwriter generates new personal business by acceptance or rejection of personal insurance risks based on Hastings Mutual product and coverage guidelines and maintains personal business written to ensure profitability and growth.
Position Location & Work Format
This position will work from our Hastings, Michigan offices in a hybrid (combination of work-from-home and in-office) arrangement. However, consideration may be given to candidates who reside outside of the greater Hastings area to work in a remote arrangement. Generally, this position will work within our standard office hours of Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
Position Duties & Responsibilities
- Reviews, approves, and processes personal lines applications and endorsements within the department service standard, which are acceptable in relation to underwriting guidelines to achieve corporate premium and profitability objectives.
- Professionally communicates and negotiates with the agency force. Develops relationships with assigned agencies to achieve corporate goals.
- Reviews and processes renewal policies assuring the risk meets HMIC eligibility and is appropriately rated.
- Continually learns about new products and events in the insurance industry.
- Works on corporate projects as assigned.
- Actively participates in professional development, i.e. continuing education or self-improvement.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership, either verbally or in writing.
Candidate Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED certificate required or equivalent work experience.
- Associate's degree or higher preferred.
- Three years of personal lines insurance experience is preferred.
- Associates in Personal Underwriting (API) is preferred.
- Demonstrated understanding of all Personal Lines products, pricing, and coverages.
- Includes interpretation and demonstrated understanding of authority level, guidelines, and additional underwriting resource materials to achieve quality metrics.
- Demonstrated PC skills, including proficient use of Microsoft Office products.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication ability required.
