Description

The Renewable Energy Solutions Engineer is a mid-level role with high technical competence designed for a candidate with an existing broad understanding of solar and storage project development, including applicability of grants and incentives as well as alternate project value streams. The core function will be to assist in the development and solutioning of complex renewable/microgrid and energy storage projects.  In addition support the Sales Operations team in building out the analytic tools, resources, and knowledge necessary to grow our Advanced renewable energy Solutions including energy storage and microgrids (“Advanced Solutions”).

The Renewable Energy Solutions Engineer will also be responsible for developing proformas and drafting of sales deliverables for both our standard and Advanced Solutioning offers including the required data / load analyses and financial summaries.

Business Development Support Functions

  • Working closely with Business Development Managers (BDM’s) to analyze project opportunities for potential solutions, identifying customer goals and objectives, and developing integrated energy supply and management solutions that align with customer goals.
  • Develop preliminary designs and integration of advanced energy solutions sufficiently that they can be accurately estimated
  • Identify and coordinate with suppliers and partners delivering the solutions.  Ensure that the suppliers meet internal quality and performance standards.
  • Research and apply relevant grants and incentives to solutions. Quantify and incorporate the value of the incentives incorporated in proposals and financial analyses.
  • Assist with scoping and information gathering and pertaining to the identified solutions and educate other supporting functions on their design, implementation, operation and benefits.
  • Facilitate technical communication with customer on energy usage assessment, site assessment, solution application and potential red flags such as utility interconnection, permitting, flood zone, and other issues.
  • Draft, coordinate, and deliver sales deliverables for prospective clients in coordination with the lead BDM
  • Team and collaborate with Sales Operations to explain to the customer the sales deliverables and specifics, including value proposition of the proposed solution.
  • QA/QC for sales deliverables, confirming accuracy and completeness of products.

 

Data Analysis Functions

  • Retrieve, evaluate, and summarize onsite customer energy data.
  • Conduct analyses using energy data and utility rate information and solutioning outputs to present an accurate estimate of projected project savings.
  • Assist in interpretation of utility, regulatory, and incentive-related updates and the subsequent integration of findings into Sales Operations internal analytics tools and deliverable templates.

 

Solar and Advanced Solutioning

  • Support Sales Operations with developing the analytic tools necessary to grow our Advanced renewable energy Solutions including both vetting existing external tools and helping develop our own internal tools.
  • Capability to independently model a variety of renewable energy technologies and develop solutions that optimize financial return based on client operations and objectives and available incentives and credits.
  • Lead the evaluation of potential Advanced Solution suppliers for pre-qualification and manage the associated vendor and contractor selection process.
  • Act as the primary CalCom Energy representative on customer calls to explain the pre-design considerations, analytics, scope, and savings related to proposed Advanced Solutions.
  • Work to provide efficiency and standardization across internal CalCom Energy departments for future Advanced Solutions implementation.
  • Properly identify and apply qualifying grants and incentives to solutions, quantify and communicate the value of the incentives to the customer.
Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience in advanced renewable energy solutions, electrical engineering, energy, environmental or sustainability field.
  • 5+ years experience in renewable energy development and EPC environment with demonstrated success in integrating the added value of grants and incentives (preferably solar + storage and microgrid projects).
  • High-level understanding of renewable project lifecycle including sales, development, project engineering, procurement, interconnection, construction, and post-installation asset management.

General Sales Operation Knowledge, Skills, And Experience

  • Excellent proficiency in current versions of Microsoft Office software specifically MS Teams and advanced Excel functions.
  • Advanced understanding of financial modeling and proformas including incorporating “soft” value streams.
  • Demonstrated experience with planning, organizing, and completing assignments independently and on time.
  • Record of attention to detail and strong project and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across internal and external teams to develop project solutioning.
  • Proficient verbal, written, and presentation skills. Ability to communicate clearly with credibility and confidence.
  • Ability to work with shifting priorities and embrace new or evolving responsibilities.
  • Capable of performing well under pressure and on time-sensitive milestones/deliverables.

 

Data Analysis Functions

  • Able to leverage critical thinking and analysis skills to solve complex problems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial utility tariff structures.
  • Ability to proactively find ways to improve upon existing processes and procedures.

Solar and Advanced Solutioning

  • Analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to recommend optimal solutions for various situations based on a broad range of options.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with solar and energy storage incentives and revenue streams (examples: tax credits, renewable energy credits (RECs), real time pricing, resource adequacy, demand side grid support, resiliency, etc.).

Preferred:

  • 6+ years experience in energy development and EPC environment.
  • Experience using HOMER software, Energy Toolbase, or other renewable energy design and energy modeling software.
  • General understanding/experience in carbon markets.
  • Previous experience with Salesforce or similar CRMs.
