About Digital Divide Data (DDD)

Digital Divide Data (DDD) is a US-based non-profit, mission-driven enterprise that uses technology and digital skills to bridge the divide between economically and socially marginalized youth and employment opportunities that lead to a sustainable and viable future.

DDD identifies talented but underserved youth in Africa and Asia (Kenya, Cambodia to enter formal employment, undergo professional training and skills development, and pursue tertiary education.

About The Program

The localization industry is growing fast, and the a need for skilled Khosa translators. We are looking for talents with great language skills in IsiKhosa to equip them with the necessary competencies to build a career at Digital Divide Data in the exciting Localization industry.

Our Transforming Talent program provides learning opportunities to multilingual people, who will be leading the in-country team of linguists, facing clients, and owning the quality of his/her language

The Role

  • Translation, Transcription, Subtitling, and Dubbing various types of content, including marketing, help, and UI
  • Master or learn the tools associated with translation work (e.g. tools for creating queries or checking the live UI elements)
  • Precisely follow the established translation process, e.g. always raise queries when there is a need to
  • Perform regular linguistic reviews and quality checks of their work to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Learn the style guide and overall client requirements, e.g. stylistic preferences
  • Meet and strive to surpass the set productivity and quality KPIs
  • Make sure to keep appropriate POCs informed about potential or actual delays, and quality issues, and share regular updates about the progress of work
  • Participate in 1:1 or group/team meetings with various stakeholders via the appropriate Communication channels including emails

Ideal Profile

  • University degree or diploma equivalent preferably in Linguistics, Journalism, or Mass Communication
  • Fluent in English (both written and spoken, in a wide range of registers)
  • Fluent in Isikhosa (with the understanding of what conversational and easy-to-read Isikhosa is, plus excellent spelling and grammar of standard Isikhosa)
  • Passion for languages, specifically in English and Isikhosa
  • Passion for the world of technology
  • Passion for reading and writing in Isikhosa, creative writing, poetry
