Job description

STARK is seeking to hire an experienced Carpet Designer with a strong background in Hospitality, Contract, and Axminster carpet design. The ideal candidate will be a creative and detail-oriented professional who can work collaboratively with our Design Studio Director, Account Managers, and clients to create custom designs that meet specific needs and preferences. This position offers the flexibility to work remotely, with occasional travel to our flagship showroom in New York.

Candidates are encouraged to provide a portfolio with examples of Axminster and Hand-Tufted qualities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Design Studio Director on custom designs targeting Hospitality and Contract projects.
  • Collaborate closely with Account Managers (sales team) and clients to design rugs and broadloom carpets tailored to clients' specific needs.
  • Comprehend client requirements, present design options, and adjust as needed to meet their expectations.
  • Understand the quality and production capabilities, including Axminster and Hand-Tufted techniques.
  • Be knowledgeable about various materials, weaving methods, and production processes to ensure practical and high-quality designs.
  • Develop and create custom design collections that align with emerging trends.
  • Design and provide creative solutions based on project briefs, creating detailed plans and ensuring all designs meet specified criteria.
  • Manage multiple design projects at once, keeping track of deadlines, and ensuring timely completion.
  • Maintain and organize project files, update status reports, and communicate progress.
  • Assist in sample production, coordinate with suppliers, and participate in design meetings. This includes working closely with production teams to ensure accurate and timely sample creation.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the design and production workflow.
  • Support quality control, attend client meetings, and offer design assistance to team members.
  • Perform other tasks and projects as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Hospitality and Contract carpet design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Surface Pattern Design, Textile Design, Graphic Design, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in PC applications and design software, including but not limited to:
    • Kaledo: Experience in creating textile designs and patterns.
    • Ned Graphics: Proficient in designing and simulating carpet patterns.
    • APSO: Knowledge of this software for advanced pattern design and production planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Adobe Suite and PowerPoint is a plus!
  • Strong understanding of carpet and rug production processes.
  • Residential experience and product development knowledge are a plus.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail, including color matching and color sensibility.
  • Exceptional visual and verbal communication skills.
