Job description

Snap Inc is a technology company. We believe the camera presents the greatest opportunity to improve the way people live and communicate. Snap contributes to human progress by empowering people to express themselves, live in the moment, learn about the world, and have fun together. The Company’s three core products are Snapchat, a visual messaging app that enhances your relationships with friends, family, and the world; Lens Studio, an augmented reality platform that powers AR across Snapchat and other services; and its AR glasses, Spectacles.

The Legal & Policy Team is Snap’s dedicated in-house law firm, policy consultant, lobbyist, thought partner, and all-around advisor. We help Snap do the right thing the right way, make better decisions, understand and manage risks, and creatively navigate challenges, both external and internal. We value the power of diversity, as we continually strive to build an innovative and inclusive leadership culture centered on Snap's values of Kind, Smart, and Creative.

We are looking for an experienced and highly organized eDiscovery attorney to join our Litigation team!

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive eDiscovery strategies aligned with the litigation team's objectives, ensuring an efficient and defensible discovery process.

  • Manage the preservation, collection, review and production of large volumes of electronically stored information (ESI), including emails, documents, SaaS data, and raw user data, to identify potentially responsive documents and privileged information.

  • Conduct thorough legal research on eDiscovery issues, including emerging case laws, regulatory updates, and technological advancements, to provide informed advice to the litigation team on best practices and compliance requirements.

  • Represent the company effectively in eDiscovery-related matters, including promptly responding to discovery requests, negotiating ESI protocols with opposing parties, and attending depositions and hearings with confidence and preparedness.

  • Collaborate with external vendors to manage and process ESI securely and efficiently, ensuring adherence to defined timelines and cost-effectiveness.

  • Confer with outside counsel to analyze and advise on eDiscovery responses and issues, ensuring compliance with legal obligations and efficiency in the discovery process.

  • Build out and document repeatable processes for the handling of eDiscovery in civil litigation and regulatory investigations.

  • Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to eDiscovery tools and practices to stay ahead of technological and legal trends.

  • Train and supervise other attorneys and legal staff on eDiscovery best practices, ethical considerations, and legal obligations.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of eDiscovery laws and regulations, including recent developments and trends

  • Proficiency in all phases of eDiscovery, including negotiating ESI protocols and the identification, preservation, collection, review and production of documents.

  • Experience developing and implementing preservation strategies.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, while also being able to collaborate effectively as part of a team, including communicating with clients, attorneys, and other professionals.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with in-house attorneys, outside counsel, paralegals, non-legal staff, and other professionals, both orally and in writing, and to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree from an accredited law school

  • Active membership in at least one state bar, in good standing

  • 5+ years of experience in eDiscovery, either at a law firm or corporate legal department

Preferred qualifications:

  • Member of California Bar or Member of the California Bar’s Registered In-house Counsel Program

  • In-house experience is highly preferred. If you have all of that plus experience with the tech sector, we’ll be blown away.

If you have a disability or special need that requires accommodation, please don’t be shy and provide us some information.
