Job description

Position Summary

IEM is searching for a Full Time- Technical Editor to join IEM`s Technical Communication team.

Primary Location:

  • Candidate can be remote anywhere from United States.
  • All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.

Essential Functions

  • Formatting, editing, and supporting a variety of technical documents—including operational, concept, strategic, and work plans, as well as doctrine and guidance documents—from inception to delivery for internal and external (federal, state, local, etc.) customers. Duties would include:
  • Formatting Microsoft Office documents using styles
  • Substantive editing, copyediting, or proofreading of technical documents based on document and customer specifications
  • Collaborating with internal customers on document development and production to ensure customers’ needs are met
  • Ensuring a high level of quality and consistency in all facets of document development and production
  • Following unique style guides based on customer needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or similar
  • 10 years of demonstrated experience editing and writing publications, including operational plans, concept plans, strategic plans, work plans, and doctrine and guidance documents
  • Excellent editing and writing skills, with the ability to analyze, synthesize, and condense text that includes technical information that is intended for use by non-technical lay audiences
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, including knowledge of formatting, styles, and template development
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience writing or editing for emergency management or emergency operations planning
  • Understanding of Section 508 requirements and experience creating 508-compliant documents
