Summary Of Role & Key Responsibilities
We are an innovative leader in corporate ESG reporting, helping companies navigate the evolving reporting landscape and stakeholder needs. We produce top-tier sustainability and ESG reports and related disclosures aligned with external standards and requirements, advise on strategies to enhance disclosures and improve ESG ratings, and create communications to share our clients' stories with diverse stakeholders.
Principal Consultant level practitioners can effectively guide clients through the planning, development, design, publication, and socialization phases of their sustainability and ESG reports and related disclosures. In this role you will also help clients understand the evolving landscape of voluntary standards and mandatory ESG disclosure requirements and guide clients in responding to these expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management – As a Principal Consultant in our ESG Reporting & Disclosure Service Line, you will be expected to:
- Lead the delivery of reporting strategy or report development client engagements, largely independently, demonstrating critical thinking and understanding of both process and strategic issues, context, and client needs.
- Deliver tasks on time, within budget, and with exceptional quality, either as, or in support of, the project lead to ensure that projects meet or exceed targets and deadlines.
- Manage several projects at any one time, each with their own dedicated project teams, which may include managing independent contractors.
- Perform senior review on project team members' work products largely independently, ensuring they meet our quality standard: clear and well-written, reflective of careful thought and analysis, error-free, and polished.
Client Management – Working with a senior client manager, you will share responsibility for:
- Serving as a primary point of contact to the client, advising on reporting strategy and providing content/reporting expertise, editorial oversight, content development, and project management.
- Managing client expectations as well as helping them optimize value through projects to drive continuous, strategic improvement.
- Developing a trusted advisor relationship with all clients and focusing relentlessly on helping them be successful in defining and achieving their reporting and disclosure goals.
Requirements
Sustainability/ ESG Reporting & Disclosure – You will be coaching clients on the evolving sustainability/ ESG reporting landscape and supporting them in the development and execution of voluntary and mandatory disclosure strategies, align with reporting frameworks and regulatory requirements, and optimize their scoring in various ESG standards and assessment platforms. You will:
- Plan and advise on the content to be included in reports and other ESG-related disclosures, based on framework, rater, regulatory, and best practice expertise
- Develop content – including writing and editing reports, disclosures and other communications materials—and provide effective guidance and editorial oversight to in-house or external writers
- Help lead reporting strategy projects via rater and framework gap analysis, benchmarking and reporting trends analysis.
- Support clients in gathering data and information and translating key sustainability messages into mediums for different target audiences (e.g., investor reporting frameworks, ESG rater and ranker platforms, regulators, customer surveys, employees, etc.).
- Support and help advise clients in developing and implementing assurance readiness processes for their sustainability/ESG reporting.
- Integrate and utilize ESG data management tools and software solutions.
Sustainability/ ESG Performance – You Will Use Insights From The Reporting Process To Advise Clients On Opportunities To Strengthen Their ESG Practices And Performance. You Will
- Develop recommendations for programmatic and policy enhancements to address disclosure gaps and improve performance.
- Conduct benchmarking and other desk research to inform recommendations.
Business Development – In collaboration with a senior client manager and the Service Line Lead, you will:
- Contribute to and develop proposals for potential clients and projects, as well as expand scopes of engagement and support with existing clients to help them drive their sustainability agenda.
- Support leadership in evolving our services to help clients with the changing voluntary and mandatory reporting landscape, regulatory reporting readiness and compliance, and other ESG reporting and disclosure needs.
Thought Leadership – As a member of the Reporting & Disclosure team you will be responsible for:
- Staying informed of the ever-changing voluntary and regulatory ESG reporting landscape and trends, developments, and best practices related to ESG reporting, communications, and disclosure.
- Provide advice and thought leadership on such changes for clients and internal teams.
Key Requirements & Skills, Knowledge And Expertise
- Senior Consultant: 4+ years of experience as a sustainability practitioner, with direct experience supporting corporate ESG reporting and disclosure efforts.
- Principal Consultant: 7+ years of experience as a sustainability practitioner, with direct experience supporting corporate ESG reporting and disclosure efforts.
- Knowledge and understanding of sustainability/ESG issues and related reporting trends, drivers, and frameworks with the ability to identify and articulate opportunities to improve ESG disclosure and performance.
- Proficiency in some of the following disclosures: CDP (Climate, Water, and/ or Forest), S&P Global CSA (DJSI), MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, and EcoVadis.
- Proficiency in the following reporting standards or frameworks: GRI, IFRS/ISSB, SASB, and TCFD.
- Familiarity with existing and pending ESG disclosure requirements, including CSRD, SFDR, ISSB, SEC, California Climate Disclosure Rules.
- Self-directed, highly motivated with an ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with virtual teams.
- Strategic thinker with strong communication skills and a client service ethos.
- An ability to manage a variety of projects at any one time with high attention to detail.
