Position Title: Country Office Staff Accountant

Compensation: $60,700 to $69,000 USD annually

Key Outcomes:

In the first 90 days, the Staff Accountant will:

  • Learn and live the Americares values.
  • Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings.
  • Fully understand the key items/deliverables of the role.
  • Ensure timely completion of monthly foreign country operations journal entries supporting the monthly close.
  • General understanding and familiarity of the ERPx system functions as related to the monthly close process.
  • Develop a relationship with staff in admin, finance, and accounting in the local country office.

In the first 6 months, the Staff Accountant will:

  • Strengthen relationships with Country Office staff and the HQ FO team.
  • Continue ensuring timely completion of monthly foreign country operations journal entries supporting the monthly close.
  • Demonstrate review completion/familiarity of Country Office accounting workpapers.
  • Demonstrate a complete understanding of the accounting closing process in ERPx as well as increased familiarity with all other system areas and functions.
  • Support preparation of the SF425 financial reporting process.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and interim grant financial reporting

In the first year, the Staff Accountant will:

  • Fully own and be accountable for all the areas mentioned above as well as duties and responsibilities of the role.
  • Suggest and/or incorporate improvements and best practices to processes.
  • Engage and actively participate in conversations with HQ FO team as well as Country Office accounting teams on suggested or requested needs.
  • Supporting internal and external needs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all foreign reporting entities have submitted monthly actual data submission forms and provide daily status reports during close process
  • Prepare and post foreign country operations journal entries based on data submission forms
  • Prepare and post lease accounting journal entries under ASC 842
  • Perform foreign currency translation of foreign entities under ASC 830
  • Analyze expenses for country offices, including comparisons to budget results
  • Coordinate intercompany charges with other locations
  • Prepare and analyze intercompany account reconciliations, resolve reconciling items when needed, and work with the HQ GL team to resolve differences.
  • Prepare SF425 and/or other external reports to donors
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports such as financial statements, budget performance, and interim grant financial reporting
  • Assist HQ Finance Manager of Country Operations in month end close process.
  • Assist with accumulating support and preparing schedules for internal and external audits
  • Correspond with others in the department and programs to ensure proper accounting for purchases and expenses
  • Support FO or HQ Accounting team on ERPx as needed
  • Support any other FO team member as needed
  • Other Ad Hoc analyses as needed.
  • Assist in the completion of other finance and accounting tasks, as assigned

Degrees and/or experience required for the role:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience as a staff accountant (preferably in a global nonprofit organization or auditor in a top 10 accounting firm

These competencies are required for the role:

  • Must be bilingual – Spanish and English
  • Demonstrated experience with preparing and proposing journal entries based on analysis performed
  • Demonstrated experience supporting internal and external audits.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to analyze data and prioritize effectively
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills in English
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff
  • Expert skills in Excel, including processing and analyzing data from different sources using advanced Excel functionality such as Advanced Formulas, and Pivot Tables, and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated problem solving experience with a focus on delivering quality results
  • Demonstrated experience leading accounting closing
  • Demonstrated experience providing support to local and HQ audits

US work authorization is required for this role.

These competencies would be great to have, but are not required:

  • Fluency in additional languages spoken in the Philippines, in addition to being fully bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Demonstrated experience working with intercompany and multi-currency transactions
  • Experience working with country office locations
