Imagine Your Impact.

This Senior Software Engineer role builds browser-based K-12 education software using React. In addition to being a skillful front-end web developer, you have a strong eye for UI/UX design—in other words, you are an engineer who also loves to assist with design tasks. Often described as front-of-the-front-end web development, you will be designing and implementing web-based user experiences for websites and internal tools that will represent IL’s brands to the world. As part of a distributed software development team, this role also involves working remotely and requires the communication skills necessary to thrive in that environment.

Position Information: This is a regular, full-time position, reporting to the Software Engineering Manager.

 

Compensation: Base pay is anticipated to be between $106,557 and $160,000 per year. Eligible employees may also receive incentive/commission/annual bonus pay based on individual and/or company performance. Compensation may vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, individual skills, experience, training, education/certifications, geographic location, internal equity, and local market conditions.

Envision Your Experience.

In this role you’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Be an advocate for our users.
  • Design and develop Front-End software to add impactful new features for teachers, students, parents, and administrative users.
  • Identify, prioritize and execute tasks in the software development life cycle.
  • Develop and debug tools and applications by producing clean, efficient code.
  • Write unit, functional, and integration tests.
  • Collaborate with other engineering, product, and UX teams and vendors to fix and improve products.
  • Ensure software is up to date with the latest technologies.
  • Ship features often to production.
  • Frame issues in ways that help the team and company clarify goals and approaches.
  • Open new approaches, ways of thinking, and opportunities that contribute to our collective mission.
  • Review pull requests and give constructive criticism in a timely manner.
  • Understand and effectively communicate the impact that new decisions and technical hurdles have on work duration.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Share Your Expertise.

Experience, education, and qualifications essential for success in this role, include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, graphic design, or a related field and extensive experience in web application engineering: designing, programming, securing, testing, reviewing, releasing, and maintaining; or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of web application engineering experience with React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Prior experience building modern applications, and a strong portfolio of work highlighting your favorite projects.
  • Strong experience in visual design, interaction design, and prototyping preferred.
  • Experience with design tools and systems.
  • Analytical mind with problem-solving aptitude.
  • Self-managed; doesn't require management or significant direct involvement of others to move personal responsibilities forward.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Must be able to communicate complex information to team, product management and other stakeholders in the company.
  • Knowledge of tools and technologies that successful teams are using to help maintain and make teams more efficient.
  • Passion for collaboration and team unity, and continuous learning.
  • Familiarity with web accessibility.
