Your Impact

As a Software Engineering Lead, you will guide a team of software engineers in the design, development, and implementation of high-quality software solutions, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical strategies with business objectives. Your role involves managing and mentoring team members, defining architectural frameworks, and ensuring project deliverables meet the highest standards of excellence. 

The Opportunity

Engineering Leads at Encompass Technologies are emerging leaders who balance hands-on development with guiding a small team. They focus on:

  • Providing hands-on technical leadership and mentoring for a small team of developers
  • Contributing to the software directly at a Senior Engineer level
  • Ensuring timely delivery of team projects and maintains high code quality standards
  • Influencing technical decisions within the team and contributes to department-wide discussions

Results Areas for this role include: 

  • Team Leadership & Development:
    • Mentor and guide a small team through regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
    • Address skill gaps with targeted training and pair programming.
    • Foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a supportive team environment.
  • Technical Strategy & Innovation:
    • Lead architectural discussions and key technical decisions.
    • Research and implement technologies and best practices to boost productivity and code quality.
    • Collaborate with other teams to align technical strategies and prototype solutions for challenges.
  • Project Delivery & Quality Assurance:
    • Oversee project progress, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to coding standards.
    • Conduct code reviews, implement testing processes, and lead sprint planning.
    • Identify and address risks impacting timelines or quality.
  • Organisational Impact & Influence:
    • Represent the team in discussions, aligning goals with organizational priorities.
    • Collaborate across teams to address technical challenges and improve processes.
    • Mentor junior developers and contribute to resource planning and project prioritization.
What you would bring to Encompass

Qualifications and experience essential for success in this role include: 

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience working with the required technologies including Web applications / architecture, C#, SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript (vanilla)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Experience leading a development team (preferred)

We are a hybrid organisation and are open to applicants for both hybrid and fully remote roles.  Our AU corporate office is located in Collingwood, Melbourne, AU.
