Job description

As a Cash Application Specialist, you will be an essential part of the corporate business support team. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds and contribute to the strategic goals of our company. Your role will involve providing essential support to various departments, enabling them to focus on their core functions and drive overall success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Balance and enter daily total deposit in Cash Posting Spreadsheet against billing system reports for RCM review
  • Process and post all EFT insurance payments into the PMS by following the insurance posting procedures for electronic and manual posting
  • Researching all electronic rejected postings and exceptions to appropriately identify takebacks, refunds, withholdings, or forward balances
  • Process and post all patient and collections agency payments received into the PMS by following the private pay posting procedures
  • Process and post insurance and patient refunds
  • Resolve unidentified payments and remits promptly
  • Research and/or contact payer for missing EOB for deposits without supporting backup
  • Research and/or contact payer for payment information for EOBs received without supporting deposits
  • Communicate payment or denial patterns that impact revenue to management promptly
  • Balance and reconcile PMS postings to ensure accurate data is provided for month-end closing and finance
  • Processes adjustments when appropriate and in accordance with policies
  • Maintain knowledge of mental health billing, department policies, and procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with cross-functional teams, teammates and Payor representatives, and other key stakeholders
  • Consistently meet or exceed the department productivity and quality standards and performance requirements
  • Collaborate as needed to identify and resolve underpayments and overpayments
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned include but not limited to:
  • Work overtime with little or no notice as needed
  • Attend team meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of physician billing and/or cash posting experience
  • High school diploma
  • Self-starter; able to move own workflow along with minimal oversight
  • Accurate; detail-oriented and able to meet tight turnaround times
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Intermediate computer skills and proficiency in MS word, excel outlook and database management, and internet usage
  • 2-4 years of physician payment posting, billing, and accounts receivable in healthcare
  • Certified Revenue Cycle Representative or other billing certification
