Aviva Canada has a new opportunity in our Engineering Underwriting team for a Junior/Intermediate Field Underwriter. As a result of our commitment to provide superior service to our Branch/Broker Partners, this role will provide our partners with a more personal touch service. This concept will enforce Aviva's Brand Promise “No one recognizes you like Aviva”. A critical objective of this role will be delivering a trusted Broker Experience and taking ownership of risk decisions and transcending a confident and professional experience to our Broker Partners.

The Senior Field Underwriter ensures communication with Branch/Broker Partners is consistent and fair and delivers a value-added service to our them. Developing effective Broker Partner relationships is the key to the success of this role. You will play a critical role in delivering best in class underwriting service and balance the broker needs against the corporate priorities to enable profitable growth and underwriting excellence.

What You’ll Do:

Direct Underwriter Support to Manager, Branch, Broker and MGAs:

  • Assess and evaluate risk on new and renewal business on complex cases for respected regions across Canada.

  • Apply technical knowledge and experience to rating underwriting and documentation.

  • Analyze reports to determine exposure and loss ratings.

  • Determine all risks to which insured may be exposed.

  • Apply loss control and risk management concepts.

  • Establish premium for assigned accounts.

Sales:

  • Maintain awareness of market trends, price levels and legal requirements.

  • Act as a leader in promoting team dynamics with the regional structure. Conduct broker visits in order to help the teams achieve production goals but to also recognize and develop mutually profitable opportunities.

  • Responsible for profitability and the Equipment breakdown line of business in assigned region.

  • Cross Border Facility.  Broker and Branch visits promoting and training on the Cross-Border facility for equipment breakdown.

  • Maintain awareness to Commercial lines retention and promote Equipment Breakdown accounts at renewal and vice versa.

Technical Support:

  • Co-ordinate and provide coaching and mentoring skills to all commercial lines underwriters which will assist in developing and enhancing their ability to profitably grow and retain the book of business in that region.

  • Working with Junior Underwriter’s and Intermediate Underwriter’s with assessing equipment breakdown risks and offer guidance.
