Job Description:

This is a strategic, high-impact role, where leveraging expertise in tax technology and solution selling will be crucial in driving the sales cycle for both new and existing customers. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, including C-level executives and tax professionals, to deliver customized solutions that address complex indirect tax challenges such as calculation, reporting, and compliance.

As a SSA, you will leverage your deep knowledge of tax technology to guide customers toward the most effective solutions for their business needs. You will manage a sales quota, take ownership of a defined territory, and collaborate with internal teams, including Account Executives and Consulting leaders, as well as Alliance Partners, to meet Vertex’s revenue goals. This role requires an expert in tax technology who understands the DACH market’s unique needs and has a proven track record of driving value through consultative solution selling and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Quota & Pipeline Management: Own and manage your sales pipeline for the DACH region, accurately forecasting revenue and achieving sales targets for Vertex’s tax technology products and professional services.
  • Tax Technology Expertise: Lead discovery sessions with clients to understand their complex tax requirements. Use your expertise in tax technology to present Vertex’s tailored solutions for indirect tax calculation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Collaboration with Account Executives: Partner with Account Executives to define the optimal solutions approach, ensuring that sales strategies align with revenue goals and maximize the value of Vertex’s products and services.
  • Strategic Sales Leadership: Develop and execute sales strategies that differentiate Vertex’s tax solutions from competitors, while remaining flexible to engage with third-party service providers when necessary to meet customer needs and ensure satisfaction.
  • Client Engagement & Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including C-level executives, tax professionals, and ERP system implementers, to understand their tax strategies and develop scalable deployment plans.
  • Implementation Strategy & Negotiation: Lead the creation of Statements of Work (SOWs), RACI diagrams, and Gantt tables to define and document the implementation strategy. Manage negotiations and finalize contracts to ensure successful delivery and alignment with client objectives.
  • Post-Implementation Support: Propose and design post-implementation strategies to ensure customer success, satisfaction, and the continued value of Vertex’s tax technology solutions.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Vertex Consulting leaders for resource planning, knowledge transfer, and customer onboarding. Collaborate with Vertex’s legal team to finalize agreements, including SOWs and Master Agreements.
  • Business Development & Opportunity Identification: Identify and pursue new opportunities for professional services engagements, product solutions, and tax automation services. Proactively discover new business avenues that expand Vertex’s product offerings.
  • Alliance Partner Collaboration: Collaborate with Vertex’s Alliance Partners to strategize and develop joint solutions for winning opportunities, ensuring that combined efforts maximize success and revenue potential.
  • Mentorship & Training: Mentor and support the Pre-Sales team, developing training programs and delivering presentations that foster knowledge sharing and grow team capabilities in tax technology.
  • Cross-functional Representation: Represent the SSA team in internal meetings, lead design sessions with Vertex Alliance Partners, and contribute to expanding Vertex’s ecosystem to meet the evolving needs of tax professionals.
  • Travel: Occasional travel required (approximately 30%).

Required Qualifications:

  • Expertise in tax technology with a strong understanding of the DACH market’s unique tax challenges and regulatory landscape.
  • Fluent in German and English, with a proven track record in consultative solution selling, particularly in the area of tax automation.
  • In-depth knowledge of indirect tax calculation, reporting, and compliance, with a focus on how technology can address these complex needs.
  • Experience leading discovery sessions with tax professionals and C-level executives, presenting tailored solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Proven ability to negotiate complex contracts, manage the sales cycle, and close business while maintaining long-term client relationships.
  • Strong experience in collaborating with Alliance Partners to develop winning strategies for joint opportunities.
  • A self-starter with the ability to independently drive new business opportunities and successfully manage customer relationships.
