AAPNG

Australia Awards Papua New Guinea (AAPNG) supports Papua New Guinea to achieve its development goals through education, knowledge transfer, and institutional capacity building. The program includes Australia Award Scholarships, Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships, and Australia Awards Short Course Awards, providing opportunities for Papua New Guineans to acquire professional and technical knowledge and skills.

Position Overview

The Management Information Systems Specialist will support the AAPNG MIS Coordinator in designing, developing, and implementing AAPNG’s data management system. This role involves creating a robust end-user system integrated with the Azure SQL Server, digitizing internal business processes, and providing a single source of truth for all AAPNG data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the MIS Coordinator and Knowledge Hub team to understand functional and technical requirements for the UI.
  • Provide guidance in assessing current workflows and recommending improvements for efficient data interaction.
  • Support and provide guidance for a user-friendly web-based or desktop-based UI for interacting with the Azure SQL Server.
  • Support the MIS Coordinator to Develop, test, and implement SQL queries for efficient data retrieval and manipulation.
  • Ensure data consistency and integrity during all interactions.
  • Support the Development of role-based access control to ensure secure user authentication and data privacy.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field.
  • Ten years or more managing, designing, implementing, or supporting office-based management information systems in Papua New Guinea or similarly challenging environments.
  • Eight years or more in roles focused on capacity transfer through training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with Azure SQL Server or SQL Databases.
  • Understanding of developing user-friendly systems for non-technical users.
  • Ability to work with a diverse user group to understand their needs and ensure technical MIS specifications respond to those needs.

Working Arrangements

  • Must be able to travel to Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in late January 2025 for initial systems scoping.
  • Available for ‘on-call’ flexible working arrangements aligning with the support needs of the Knowledge Hub and MIS Coordinator.
