Job description

Job Title: VP International Mobility Engineering & India Head
Location: Bangalore, India

Job Overview:
WEX Inc. is seeking a highly experienced and strategic technology leader to take on the role of VP International Mobility Engineering & WEX India Head. This position will be responsible for the engineering and delivery of our international Mobility and Fleet platforms across the EU and APAC regions, while simultaneously leading and scaling our engineering center in Bangalore, India. The individual will drive WEX’s international mobility initiatives and develop a high-performing offshore engineering team to align with WEX’s global growth strategy.

This role reports to our SVP, Mobility & Payments Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

International Mobility & Fleet Platforms:

  • Own the engineering, development, and delivery of WEX's international mobility and fleet platforms for the EU and APAC markets.

  • Ensure product alignment with business requirements across multiple regions while considering compliance, security, and scalability.

  • Ensure that systems meet customer SLAs and internal SLOs, continuously improving service reliability and performance.

  • Collaborate closely with the GMs of the international businesses and the regional Product heads to align engineering efforts with business needs, driving innovation and operational efficiency.

WEX India Subsidiary Leadership: 

  • With the support of a local Managing Director, oversee all financial aspects of the India division, including budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with local financial regulations. This also includes managing operational efficiency and resource allocation within the India team.

  • Lead and empower the WEX India organization to effectively contribute to global technology projects, while also driving hiring, retention, and development of employees within India. This involves aligning global HR policies with local needs and fostering a positive work environment.

  • Act as the senior escalation point for the India division, promoting company culture and ensuring alignment with global strategies. This includes fostering relationships with local authorities and stakeholders, and championing the growth and utilization of the India team across the global company.

Leadership & Strategic Execution:

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to engineering teams responsible for building and scaling our global mobility solutions.

  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the engineering organization.

  • Act as a key technology partner to the SVP of Mobility & Payments Engineering in driving WEX’s technology roadmap and global engineering strategy.

India Engineering Center:

  • Build, manage, and grow a best-in-class offshore engineering office in Bangalore.

  • Oversee the recruitment, development, and retention of top engineering talent in India.

  • Evolve WEX’s India strategy, scaling the current staff to meet the growing needs of the global business and integrating India operations into the broader global engineering organization.

  • Ensure the India team operates with high efficiency and alignment to WEX’s engineering and operational standards.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with product, operations, and engineering teams across multiple regions to deliver high-quality products that meet regional customer needs.

  • Drive cross-functional alignment to ensure seamless execution of projects and initiatives.

Technology Innovation:

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in mobility, fleet management, and payments to influence technology decisions and strategy.

  • Champion innovation initiatives that enhance WEX’s competitive edge in the global mobility space.

Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in engineering leadership roles, with proven success managing global engineering teams and large-scale technology initiatives.

  • Experience with payments systems and platforms that require high availability, high performance, and reliability at scale.

  • Expertise in modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and transforming legacy operations into modern, agile engineering environments.

  • Demonstrated expertise in building and managing offshore engineering teams, particularly in India.

  • Strong understanding of international business and engineering needs, especially across EU and APAC markets.

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a proven track record of aligning global teams around common goals.

  • Ability to drive change and influence at all levels of the organization.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
