UTA is seeking a Back-End Developer responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining our backend applications. This will involve continuously analyzing areas for improvement and identifying opportunities to automate, secure, and codify our environment. You will play a key role in fostering our high-quality engineering culture, which values rapid iteration, collaboration, and adherence to best practices. This position reports to the Director of Engineering and offers flexibility to work remotely in Los Angeles, with periodic in-office requirements.
We are hiring a Back-End Developer to design, develop, and maintain web applications using Node.js, GraphQL, MongoDB, Postgres, and Algolia/ElasticSearch. You will collaborate closely with our front-end development and design teams to ensure our web applications are optimized for speed, scalability, and usability. Experience with cloud services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), GitHub Actions, Terraform, Kubernetes, Microservices, and API Management Systems is a plus.
The salary range for this role is $170,000 to $190,000 commensurate with experience and skills.
What You Will Do
Application Development
- Develop and maintain backend services for our web applications using Node.js, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and scalable code.
- Design and implement data models using MongoDB and Postgres, ensuring optimal data storage and retrieval.
- Create and maintain GraphQL & REST APIs to provide data to front-end applications, ensuring smooth communication between the front-end and back-end.
- Implement and optimize search indexes like Algolia/ElasticSearch to improve search functionality, ensuring accurate and efficient search results.
Testing and Monitoring
- Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability, utilizing testing frameworks such as Jest or Mocha.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production issues and provide solutions as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operation of web applications.
Collaboration and Workflow
- Collaborate with front-end development and design teams to optimize web application performance, ensuring a fast and responsive user experience.
- Utilize GitHub Actions for automated testing, deployment, and monitoring, ensuring efficient and reliable development workflows.
- Work with API Management Systems to ensure secure and efficient communication between web applications and APIs.
Continuous Learning
- Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in backend development, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills.
What You Will Need
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of Back-End development experience
- Proficiency in building and managing APIs using Node.js (REST and GraphQL).
- Experience with database design and management in MongoDB and PostgresDB.
- Proven experience in MongoDB, Postgres, and Algolia/ElasticSearch, with a deep understanding of backend development best practices.
- Experience working with serverless functions, ensuring efficient and scalable server-side processing.
- Having experience working with messaging/streaming systems like Kafka, RabbitMQ is plus.
- Familiarity with deployment processes and CI/CD pipelines.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, ensuring efficient collaboration and development workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail, delivering high-quality code and effective troubleshooting
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, working closely with front-end development and design teams to build innovative and effective web applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing your workload and collaborating effectively with other team members to meet project goals.
- Nice to have: Experience with cloud services, Microservices, Kubernetes, IAC, Github actions, Terraform, and API Management Systems, ensuring efficient deployment, management, and scaling of backend applications.
