Data Scientist Agronomy & Remote Sensing 

 

POSITION PURPOSE:

  • Lead the development of data-driven agricultural solutions by combining expertise in soil science, crop modelling, remote sensing, and advanced analytics to create innovative digital products that revolutionize farming practices and enhance agricultural productivity.
  • Drive experimentation and modeling using geospatial data, weather patterns, and field observations to deliver actionable insights and predictive solutions for farmers and agriculture ecosystem stakeholders

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ideate, experiment and build data driven value offerings for farmers in collaboration with cross functional teams. 
  • Develop weather and climate change related models using statistical and process-based modelling. 
  • Design and conduct field experiments - guide team of field officers for data collection from field for input to modelling and model validation exercises. 
  • Build predictive models to map soil properties and field variabilities using statistical and modeling techniques. 
  • Collaborate with other data scientists and engineers in developing models to characterize, diagnose and/or predict patterns of crop performance. Deploy the analysis results or models in the customer facing services, monitor its performance and improve the model. 
  • Clean, munge, and explore diverse complex agricultural, EO Remote Sensing and/OR geospatial datasets, visualize data to get insights from it. 
  • Analyze and judge the quality of data, and work with the data quality team to resolve issues.

 

WHO YOU ARE:

  • MS with 5+ years of experience in soil research and remote sensing OR Ph.D. in Remote Sensing, Soil Science, Agronomy, Environmental Science, or closely related field. 
  • Demonstrated experience with remote sensing, agricultural, and geospatial datasets; and ability to apply statistical and/or data science skills to real world problems. 
  • Strong background in soil hydrology and/or Agronomy with experience using soil properties/weather geospatial datasets (such as SoilGrids, ERA5 etc). 
  • Experience with GIS software and geospatial analysis. 
  • Proficiency in Python/R and SQL for data analysis. Stats and programming experience with modeling techniques (Linear Regression, Partial Least Squares, Random Forest, Neural Networks, etc.) 
  • The ideal candidate will combine strong scientific expertise with practical agricultural knowledge to drive innovation in soil science and agricultural technology.
