To connect UN Women with a diverse range of knowledgeable and experienced gender experts and trainers around the world who possess expertise in the areas of work covered by UN Women’s mandate, UN Women is establishing a global roster of experts and trainers. This roster will facilitate the recruitment, hiring and evaluation of consultants from various thematic areas across different domains of foreign policy.

In this context, UN Women is currently inviting experienced experts, facilitators and trainers (individual consultants not firms) to apply to be considered for registration in the UN Women roster in the following areas:

Area 2: Foreign Policy and Rule of Law

Area 3: Foreign Policy and Sustainable Development

Area 4: Foreign Policy and Private Sector

Area 5: Foreign Policy and gender responsive trade and investments

Area 6: Foreign Policy and Women’s Rights

Area 7: Foreign Policy, Women, Peace and Security

Area 8: Foreign Policy, Gender and Humanitarian Action

Area 9: Foreign Policy and inclusive post crises reconstruction and recovery

Area 10: Foreign Policy and Ending Violence Against Women and Girls

Area 11: Foreign Policy and Migration

Area 12: Foreign Policy and Climate Justice

Area 13: Foreign Policy, Civil Society and Movement Building

Area 14: Foreign Policy and Financing for development

Area 15: Bilateral and Multilateral Diplomatic Negotiations

Training Accreditation: Experts interested in providing training consultancy services in their areas of expertise will be considered as both experts and trainers in related fields. After joining a thematic roster, applicants will be invited to provide information about their training background and complete a competency-based test to demonstrate their knowledge in adult learning.

Only applicants who pass all screening procedures will be included in the roster.

Organizational setting and reporting.

Selected experts may be considered for short term consultancies. They will be reporting to the Policy Specialist, Gender Responsive Foreign Policy, who will provide the overall technical guidance throughout the consultancy assignment.

Description Of Responsibilities /Scope Of Work

Rostered consultants will provide a range of advisory services to clients (UN Women Divisions, Regional Offices or Country Offices, UN Women Training Centre, project teams, and partners as needed). Any other reporting lines and working relationships will be specified at the time of contracting for a specific assignment.

When demand arises in a particular thematic area, pre-selected consultants will be called upon to provide demand-driven services. The range of tasks for the consultant may include applied research, diagnostic missions, provision of strategic and operational advice, training and capacity development activities, strategic development of policy papers, on-site support to programmes, programme evaluation, drafting of policy papers, among others.

Consultancy services provided will be home-based by experts from various geographical regions.

Required Qualifications:

Education and Certification:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in International Relations, Political Science, Diplomacy or other related fields, with specialization in any of the thematic areas of expertise listed in the call.
  • A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.


Experience:

  • At least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of foreign or development policies and projects, including on gender equality;
  • At least 5 years of technical knowledge relevant to the thematic area of interest;
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Excellent drafting and formulation skills; proven record of official reports or papers/studies in the selected area;
  • Sound knowledge of international standards on human rights, women’s rights and related instruments is required;
  • Experience with training and facilitation is an asset.
  • Excellent analytical skills with strong drive for results and capacity to work independently.


Languages:

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Knowledge of French or Spanish or any other UN official is an asset.


Contracting Arrangements:

  • Successful candidates will be included in the relevant thematic area of the UN Women Experts and Trainers Roster.
  • Entry into the roster system does not necessarily mean a guaranteed contract with UN Women. This will depend on forthcoming needs.
  • A specific Terms of Reference outlining the outputs for each assignment will be provided and a consultants’ contract will be issued to the consultant, detailing the timeframe and deadlines for the position. Conditions of a particular assignment may be negotiable.


Payments: Payment will be made upon confirmation that the agreed upon services have been satisfactorily performed, as specified in the contract with UN Women.

Note: An expert can apply for no more than two listed areas in the call.
