Job Summary

As part of senior management, this role sets the strategic direction for interest rate and liquidity risk management, hedging, economic capital adequacy, and investment considerations for the organization’s core products. The role requires close collaboration with Investments and product actuarial teams to optimize ALM outcomes for the organization considering economic and market opportunities. The role also requires close collaboration with Corporate Finance and Accounting, Actuarial Modeling and Enterprise Risk Management to ensure consistency, reliability, and proactive risk management across financial and capital planning processes. This position will drive long-term capital stability and support strategic growth through scenario-based planning, informing decision making at the Management Committee level through both the Corporate Actuary and Chief Risk Officer and the Chief Accounting Officer.

  • This position plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s financial and capital strategies by overseeing Asset-Liability Management (ALM), Economic Capital and Capital Analytics.
  • Employees in this role are eligible for fully remote work. Occasional travel only (such as for planning purposes, team building, or conferences) may be required.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • 10+ years of experience in ALM, capital management, or a related field, with a strong background in financial and risk management in the insurance industry.
  • Preferred experience in statutory and economic capital forecasting and financial modeling.
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in related field & professional licensure or certification:  Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) or equivalent international designation, with additional financial or risk management credentials a plus (e.g., CFA, PRM, CRM, CERA, etc.).
  • Strategy development and execution through team engagement and empowerment.
  • Develop and oversee interest rate and liquidity risk metrics, including hedging strategies, to manage economic risks related to investments and insurance products.
  • Guide strategic asset allocation based on risk assessments and capital needs, working closely with investment teams to support financial goals and ensure alignment with the company's risk tolerance.
  • Partner with Actuarial Modeling, ERM, and product management teams to bring together insights on investment performance, risk metrics, and product implications, aligning ALM with broader business strategies.
  • Direct short-term investment income forecasting, liquidity risk management, and short-term capital forecasting as part of the Financial Plan.
  • Conduct interest margin analysis to provide actionable insights for reserve adequacy and asset-liability matching under different accounting regimes, supporting the overall stability and profitability of the organization.
  • Oversee the development, production and assessment of economic capital metrics, including the Economic Solvency Ratio under the JFSA’s economic solvency regime, aligning economic solvency measures that reflect the unique characteristics of the organization’s products and strategy with regulatory expectations.
  • Integrate economic capital measures and concepts into the organization’s risk and capital management practice.
  • Provide capital strategy consulting to executive leadership, offering insights on cash management, economic capital needs, and long-term capital adequacy.
